Solid counter. Now go to Ryno + Gordon for WCS, McLlmore, and Gay

That Ryno is far and away the worst defender in the NBA. Rudy Gay is WAYYYY better than Ryno.

Not according to DRPM

He's 409 out of 429

379 out of 443 in DBPM

271 in DWS

He's not far and a way the worst going by any metric

DRPM favors forwards heavily. He is 409 out of 429. The next worst forward PF or Center is at 391. Last year, he was 466 out of 474. The only forward he was ahead of was Derrick Williams, who has been substantially better this year in his 15 minutes per game.

So yeh, by DRPM, he's pretty far and away the worst. A lot of people don't realize how impressively terrible his defense is.

The first stat he's in the bottom 5%.

The second stat he's in the bottom 15%.

The 3rd stat is influenced significantly by playing time so Ryno has the same DWS as Asik because he's played over twice as many minutes. I really wish someone calculated the OWS and DWS per 48 too instead of just the overall WS per 48. Without normalizing the minutes it's a meaningless stat for comparative purposes.

He's not a good defender at all but he's not the worst defender in the NBA

That's hyperbole

He's probably the worst defender in the nba that gets to play that many minutes. I love Ryno, but that is a big issue.

No, it really isn't. Look at what I posted. He is dead last amongst forwards in defensive plus minus. By a large margin. The only forward in the bottom 35 in defensive plus minus. Last year, he was second to last amongst forwards, and the only person worse than him, Derrick Williams, is destroying him this year. Before the injury, he wasn't quite as head and shoulders worse than his peers at defense. Just incredibly terrible and far worse than anybody playing significant minutes at 58 out of 65 amongst PFs. On 36 minutes a game. Nobody else not in the top 40 played more than 30 per game.

All these other scrubs are playing less than 20 minutes and he's playing over 30.

He is the worst defender in the NBA and its not particularly close. Once you weight it for importance(the opportunity cost of a 4 replacing another big body shot alterer around the rim and the minutes played.) its even more lopsided. Who, in your opinion, is a worse defender than Ryno?

Bellinelli is perhaps close in that he's just almost consistently as bad compared to his peers. But he is not an outlier like Ryno at an incredibly important defensive position.

Not when you look at it in context. Only 1 out of the 26 best in DRPM is not a PF/C. Only 1 out of the 35 worst in DRPM is a PF/C. Kawhi and Ryno are the outliers. Kawhi ridiculously good. Ryno ridiculously bad.

The people below him are majority guys with an incredibly small sample size leading to erratic values at the bottom and top. Bruno Cabicio, Jordan Mickey, and Sam Dekker are your top 3. If you throw out the guys with unreliable sample sizes, he sinks really low. Only Derrick Williams(who is clearly terrible as well) and Teletovic are as bad as him amongst forwards. And they play half-2/3rds of his minutes.

Unsurprisingly. in 2014, he was far and away last amongst PF/C playing significant(not big, just significant) minutes. 2013, he was dead last amongst guards AND forwards playing over 100 minutes.

These stats absolutely point to him being the worst defensive player in the NBA. Its truly incredible how impressive he is at bleeding points when he's on the court. So consistently. Schemes, competition for worst defender, age, etc changes every year. And Ryno is, without fail, able to carve out his place as worst or second worst every year, often having to defend his title as worst defender from a guy having an outlyingly bad year on 15 minutes a game.

I don't want anyone from the Kings unless its Boogey to pair with Davis.

Gay wasn't far behind him last year:
Gay: -2.46

frick your stats, the dude hustles and is a good SF/ PF mix. If gentry and his staff were worth a frick they'd use him as a SF more

That's not nearly as bad for a SF. Plus, Gay has been decent to SLIGHTLY below average this year and 2 years ago he was above average. He is a WAYYY better defender than Ryno. And in a position we desperately need.

Overall, Rudy Gay is definitely a little below average defender. Ryno is the biggest liability in the NBA by a decent margin. I don't see how you can look at those numbers as a non-homer and say otherwise.

A Jrue-Gay-AD trio is better defensively than your current big three. Not that Gay is really good or anything, I'd say he could be a piece of a playoff team next season

The team will probably make the playoffs this year. We are only 4 games back. 36 games is on pace to make it. That's 23-20 with a very soft schedule coming up and relatively healthy.

If we can get Gay for Gordon/Gee, that is a major steal. We would finally have a legit small forward and would get something of value for Gordon before he leaves.
