Would anyone take a "trade" of Ian Mahinmi for Peja? If Peja ends up signing with Dallas they need to clear a roster spot for him. We have a free roster spot and plenty of trade exceptions. Considering how little Monty played Peja while he was here, I'd take that deal.

Mavs have secured verbal commitment from Peja Stojakovic that he's signing with Dallas once he clears waivers.
He'll throw his back out in a week anyway

Hoopsworld said all teams have to wait 48 hours to talk to Peja. Hornets should file a tampering charge and get awarded a Dallas 2nd rounder or something.

The have to move someone to clear a roster spot for Peja. Mahinimi isn't getting any minutes and a "my ex's best friend is dating Mahinmi and asked about New Orleans as a place to live" rumor thread popped up on HR yesterday. If you straight up cut him you eat the money which is doubled since they are over the tax. I wouldn't be surprised to see us use a trade exception on him this weekend.

The Mavs got permission from the Raptors to speak with his agent.

Sources say Mavs also close to separate trade w/TOR to send reserve center Alexis Ajinca to Raps for draft itemsf. All explained in story

Makes sense. I was wondering exactly who was harmed by not waiting.

Oh well, it's not like Mahinmi would have been a difference maker.

Stojakovic hasn't played since Nov. 26 and even then he was in and out of the Raptors' rotation thanks to knee woes. There is no guarantee that Peja is healthy or ready to play real minutes, but the Mavs are taking a cheap flier here. With Caron Butler (knee) out, they need some shooters. Still, we have very low expectations. Stojakovic is a poor bet to sustain health or defend well enough to play for Dallas. Only add him in the deepest of leagues. Jan. 20 - 5:29 pm et

Why not just move the family?

With a net worth of $2.3B, I can promise you he doesn't care if he loses $30M in a year.
I think you are talking out of your arse. There's a reason why he's worth $2.3B. I'm sure he is well aware. $30 million is about 1.3% of his worth, for the record.

Yes, the reason he's worth $2.3B is because he sold an internet radio company to Yahoo for piles of cash a decade and a half ago. People don't own NBA teams to make money, they own NBA teams because they have money. This was the entirety of the problem with Shinn (he didn't have money), henceforth why our franchise has no current owner. Oh and by the way, IDK if you read the rest of the thread, but apparently they're going to sign him.
ETA: for the record, 1.3% is less than the unbelievably low current pace of inflation, so he's losing more than that in real-terms presuming he does nothing and he makes absolutely no other money. So again, I seriously doubt he cares if he loses 30 million a year on the Mavs.
