Crewz: What do you think would need to happen for them to move on from Gentry?

If it's for Fournier or better I'm ok committing long term, but really what they need are competent stop gaps on tradeable contracts. Toronto was patient and ended up getting a good deal on Ibaka. That's what the Pels need to do, don't force any moves, do the best you can while staying flexible in the future.

From what Crewz said part of the reasoning for Gentry was the exciting style of play that sold tickets. Boogie is selling so many tickets that they had the guy in charge of ticket sales on last night that likened getting Cousins to the year the Saints got Brees and Bush. Hopefully that's enough.

No move is likely or realistic.

Semantics don't really bother me on message boards. Likely is misused in many posts because as you stated any individual move has a less than 50% probability of occurring. However for me an individual move can be realistic. Realistic in my mind is more practically speaking a representation of what could happen if the team wants to go that route.

Use whatever adjective you want, but the odds are negligible signing KD or Hayward even with the team wanting to go that route, while the odds are decent of signing Brandon Rush or Jodie Meeks if the team makes it a priority.

Yeah- I just don't see them moving on. They would have to fire him and Dell and be willing to hand a blank check to a big boy. And they didn't even consider that two years ago so I am skeptical they will now

Crewz said part of the reasoning

He was cheap and didn't want personnel control too.

Gentry has issues, but not sure who people think they are getting with the same restrictions. Especially given the way Demps has put rosters together

You can point to a Fizdale or Atkinson. That would be nice. But that's a gamble heading into Holiday FA this summer and Cousins FA next.

If those guys + Davis are on board for it, sure. You better nail it or it could all come crashing down pretty fast

ETA- also not sure why anyone would have much faith in the braintrust since the last coaching search was largely motivated by style and price. Same guys would still be doing the search. What would have changed their mindset?

I do think they will get one wing or guard who is a quality player

Acquiring that quality wing/guard via trade though correct? I was more speaking specifically to free agency with respect to the names being thrown about here.

They will not pick in 2018

So whether it is in July or February, I think they will acquire a quality wing using that pick

Gentry seems somewhat flexible, look at giving up offensive rebounds in favor of transition defense. That's not what most offense only coaches would do. I say give it another year, if it doesn't work out fire Demps/Gentry and let AD/DC pick the next regime as they sign their contract/extension.

What if we use the full MLE on Darren Collison and actually start him next to Jrue. Small backcourt, but the huge front court balances it out and now you have plenty of playmaking and shooting. Use the pick to trade for Wilson Chandler. Have him, Moore, and Frazier as a quality bench unit with Diallo and a serviceable big.

I just want a guy who lets Jrue be more of a scoring guard, at least part of the time. I might have Collison atop my MLE list, the more I think about it

i would agree. you don't pull the trigger this summer unless you have both:

A) a target locked in
B) at least tacit approval from Davis, Cousins, probably Holiday to fire Gentry, hire replacement

doesn't mean you can't fire Gentry 10 games into next year if they start 3-7 either. just seems shortsighted to do so this summer unless players are ready to see him go.

then again, they fired Monty 2 weeks after a public letter from ownership praising his work, so i guess anything is on the table
