Exactly plus the climate/support has been completely different after Katrina than before.
Well...he did get Champions Square, channel 8 and the Hornets for a song. Of course he wants to stay now.

he got the saints for even cheaper, doesn't matter, he's a business man making our city and state better. Has brought this city a Lombardi trophy and he's the best professional ownner this state has ever had. Don't forget the voodoo as well. He's done a lot for this city.

Dunno about all of you, but to me, that doesn't quite sound like a statue-worthy guy.
Probably more deserving of a statue in NOLA than Robert E Lee or Andrew Jackson.
He joins Louis Armstrong, Joan d'Arc, Steve Gleason and Winston Churchill as great statues in NOLA

Just playing devil's advocate. He doesn't piss me off like he does some people. I think the statue is a little premature, however. But it's not worth losing your mind over.

Why should the Saints family and organization wait until he's dead or unable to accept gratitude for the gesture? Why not do it now while his health and mind allows him to enjoy the moment? Anyone with a problem with that has an ax to grind. It's probably a pretty significant sign they feel his health could be soon declining rapidly.

Benson deserves this. He saved the Pelicans, plus he has done a ton for the Saints.
Yes he did try to move the team, but I think we can over look that now..SINCE he did not move the team. (I know the NFL made him stay)
But I think everybody was a little freaked out after Katrina. I will give him a pass on that one.
Plus he is OLD..let him enjoy it..

He's also used his influence to get us as many Super Bowls as possible. You always heard anecdotally that he's very powerful with in the NFL owners and used a lot of elbow grease to get us ahead in the Superbowl votes.

Is anybody else surprised that the Saints didn't do this at like 4PM before a night game so that more fans could have cheered and witnessed it?

One day we will tear it down and beat it with our shoes.

Tom Benson has done more for New Orleans and the saints than Steve Gleason, no one seems to question his statue
Posted on 9/2/14 at 7:02 pm to gadknot
The statue isn't really about Gleason. It's about that moment.
Benson's earned it but that was a dumb comparison

Then Tom Benson has done more than that moment for the saints and the city. Work better for you?

Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson is a true hero for this city. I wish Jackson were alive to be President now. shite would get real for ISIS.
Benson deserves a statue but really it should be done posthumously.
