But by saying this...up there in the quote...you are saying that both Meachem and Bowe fit very well into the Saints team

No, actually I was pretty clear when I said this:
quote:

My point was that their skillsets are different and that Meacham's type of skills are needed more on this team.

Bowe is not a burner type if reciever. His role is mainly the physical type. We already have a guy like that. If he were on this team, he would be in the backseat.

Bowe can go deep and can also punch people in the head on short passes.

bowe isn't a deep threat as much as a jump ball threat. there's a big difference in those 2

If a player is on a deep route, and he catches a jump ball, how is that NOT a deep threat?

the time it takes for him to get in position to make that catch, and his abilities after he makes the catch

he wouldn't be, but we'd also lack a legit deep threat if dev is out

teams could just run cover 2 (which fricked us up royally last year) 15 yards off the line (instead of about 25

i feel yall are overstating his deep threat abilities(or lack thereof). i mean i agree it's probably not what he's strongest at but i dont really think he's that bad at it.

how?

bowe would take longer to get in position deep, limiting what our QB can do in the pocket. he'd have less time

also the safeties wouldn't worry about bowe running behind them, so they can play closer to the line

and then with the ball in the air, bowe is going to jump up for the ball and almost assuredly is going to get tackled doing so. meachem has the ability to run by the DBs.

I never said that he would be sitting the bench. I said that he would be in the backseat. Which means that he would not get as many of those type of catches because clearly Colston is your go-to guy.

Dwayne Bowe had 70 REC for 995 yards (14.2 AVG). He had game longs (not counting game longs less than 20--5 games out of 16) of: 25, 51, 35, 58, 23, 24, 22, 22, 23, 34 in 2007. How is he not a deep threat?

oh well that's what it seemed like you were saying.

i have a feeling that if Bowe had Brees to throw to him he'd eventually make a running at Colston for that go-to guy label. complete conjecture though obviously.
