Why would Payton want to go there? That place is a dumpster fire. He wants a chance to coach Bradford and the Sanchize?

I think Payton has an overall affection for the NFC East. Eagles are a prestigious franchise. Couple familiar faces on team, QB can be whomever Payton wants/can gets. Eagles have some talent to build on, lot more than what he started with in New Orleans

the only person reporting, nobody believes a word. public permission doesn't have to be given.

TribStarTJames: According to an NFL source, the Colts were negotiating with Sean Payton reps while Pagano talks were also happening. Talks broke down.

Apparently he was in talks with the Colts..so looks like it's certainly not an impossibility he's actually leaving. I have to think he Giants rang him up last night.

Doubtful.

Saints would have had to give permission for other teams to negotiate with CSP's reps.

IMNO had the Saints given such permission, no way the media wouldn't get wind of it, even if they didn't know WHO they were negotiating with.

Do you not think that the contact all took place while payton was in Loomis office, why meeting took so long, "belief about compensation" was talks and you don't think payton's agent was on the line with Irsay/Colts during duration...

Or not

@LarryHolder: RT @JasonLaCanfora: There was not a single conversation between Irsay and Payton's agent, Don Yee. Payton's situation with Saints still in flux

Hypothetically speaking if this were the case, I'd trade Payton and Brees to Philly for 2 1st's and 2 2nd's.

If we're getting rid of the one of the best coaches in the league we might as well get out of cap hell, and start the rebuild.

That could be 100% true. He could have been talking to someone beside Irsay, who was sitting right next to Irsay.

I'm still not totally convinced it wasn't mickey that had a conversation with a colts Representative about the payton possibility. mickey wouldn't be "payton's reps". they got denial from payton's agent.

What you thought when you heard the words "compensation was discussed" is kind of a Rorschach test for what kind of fan you are... if you're a pessimist you assumed it meant they discussed what compensation they would take in trade for Payton, an optimist assumes they discussed Payton's compensation for an extension.

Or, I guess, if you're in the FIRE PAYTON camp, you'd reverse those...

Very true, and Rapaport laid it out there very generically, but based on his other tweets, everyone assumed it was about what compensation they would accept for Payton's departure.

I assumed it was regarding his compensation to stay. Not necessarily a salary increase, but an extension to go along with the one Drew is about to take.
