I was born in ‘72 and I couldn’t agree more. I vaguely remember Carter being president, but Reagan as president was my first lucid memory of the comforting “authority figure.”
As for the Challenger explosion...Live Oak High School only had one or two televisions on campus in 1986, so I didn’t get to see the replay ‘til I got home that afternoon. My mother bawled during Reagan’s speech that night.
