Let’s be honest, the top demographic for watching football is men. And most men either aren’t really into those acts, if they even know who they are.
I mean, let’s be honest, how many of us had even heard of this Bad Bunny guy before it was announced he was Super Bowl halftime act? Yeah, he’s popular in Central and South America. But most people in America had no idea who this dude is until very recently.

And millions of others did as well. And that’s the problem. This guy is highly political. Is it fair? I don’t know. All I know is people see him through ths prism of politics. That’s just a fact. And like everything else political, half the country is on one side and half is on the other. By having him as the halftime show, all the NFL accomplished was to ensure roughly half of its potential audience would be pissed off about it.

I could tell just by interacting with family, friends, and co-workers that there was little to no interest in this Super Bowl from casual fans or folks who never watch football.
As was said earlier, people are sick of the Patriots and no one cares about the Seahawks. I watched up until the INT that sealed it in the 4th quarter, then shut it off.
I watched a bit of both big halftime shows and thought both sucked. I'm a conservative voter, but I'm not going to pretend to like lame music just 'cause.
All in all, I think I only turned the game on to begin with because I'm a dude and it feels like I'm supposed to. I'll likely skip it entirely, next year.

The data doesn't really show that.
It shows many people who weren't watching regardless watched an alternative, and the overall ratings for the SB (and halftime show) seem to have increased this year (but that data isn't out yet in crystalized form).
Even this data, which is clearly is not telling the whole picture, only shows a moderate acceleration in the decrease from last year. Also, they are being misleading with their data.

48.6M is a 31% increase from 37.1M

I didnt watch this year and i did last year. Just wanted the kids to see a neat halftime show and we got a shitty kendrick showing. People are just moving away from the NFL. Theyve done an increasing job of just performing poorly and they let everyone know in advance that we probably wont like the halftime show by getting some random spanish something that half of us didnt know.

Combine that, with the fact there are really no superstar players (or at least QBs) on either team and the interest was down.
No Swifties this time and no hate-watchers (New England isn't all that odious without Belichick and Brady).
