Lakefront airport in New Orleans is an excellent example. They did an incredible job restoring it to it's former glory
New Orleans had a bunch. Joy theater, blue plate building, charity hospital, national American bank building, carver theater, mcmain secondary school, general laundry building, the gem theater, William frantz elementary, Gus mayer department store, and plenty more.

it's sad - we as an American Society have chosen cheap construction over appreciation of architecture and art and beauty
this is why this thread must live forever

It wasn't just costs; it was the modernist and brutalist trends in architecture. Anything distinct became an old outdated eyesore.
I know in Downtown Houston, and presumably other places, there were buildings that got covered up with new ugly brutalist or modern facades at different points to keep up with the trends. Or later on, maybe with that face stucco shite. Tragic wastes. A few have been restored or in the process of restoration.
