Sorta hate to say it but the problem with that stretch is I haven;t seen cop running radar in years

This is right! Too many 18 wheelers use I-12 and population growth in Livingston parish should justify it. They finally finished all the work between Madisonville and Abitia Springs. All lanes are open! That was a big win!

what is the root cause of this increase in I-12 traffic accidents
99.999% 18-wheelers.
I was in the same I-12 backup yesterday around 3pm. At the time, i was at the "one mile from weigh station" sign on I-12 East. It took about 40 minutes to get to the weigh station. As i was stopped (across from the exit lane of the West bound station) I noticed not only a gap between the median cables for me to cross over, but it also had a big concrete bottom for the drainage system. I crossed over and didn't even have to put in 4WD and re-entered the interstate at Albany/Springfield.
There was a black 18-wheeler that stayed on my arse at 84 Mph in the left lane (this is where it expands out to 3 lanes) it pissed me off to the point of dropping my speed to 60 just to keep him behind me. As i approached Denham, I got back up to 80mph hoping that the State Troopers were at the oneal lane to let them know the dick was coming. The one time you hope they are there running radar - - they were not there.
18-wheelers cruising in the passing lane are the problem.
The solution would be to enforce the existing laws for driving in the passing lane.

In comparison to when that stretch was two lanes, its unbelievable what the power of an extra lane brings to the table.
