Understood
I would not just walk up to some one and shoot their dog.
However if they happen to be running down the street calling the dogs name, who is not responding, and my child is playing in his front yard...
Well they may not like me...
Cause trust me that dog, and/or a friendship with the neighbors looses EVERYTIME when it comes to my son.
I mean after all IT IS just a dog right???

I agree with him. I'm the father of a 5 yr old and 12 yr old. If I were to see a pit (any pit) in my yard I'm dropping it without blinking an eye. To me it would be no different than if any other predatory animal came into my yard.
If either of you kill a dog in front of it's owner....you will probably have to kill the owner too. He/she is more than likely going to react irrationally.

I have owned pits for a long time. I have bred them, trained them, shown them, and raised them in my home.
Pit Bulls are not a recognized breed. Where are you showing them? Dog fighting rings?

plenty of hunters use pitts
You're talking to someone who's been hunting for almost 40 years, living in an area where the majority of men are like-minded hunters as well. And I have never seen or heard of pits being used as hunting dogs. Sorry, but no.

So if a stray lab came in your yard you would drop it as well since we have found out in this thread that labs could possibly be killers?

I haven't seen many pits either
Maybe hog hunting or something, but I don't know any personally

That's sure how it read.
How about if you see the dog and your son ISN'T in the front yard....maybe give the owner a few seconds to catch the thing. You would hate to be the guy who killed the pitbull that saved a family from a burning building or something....as unlikely as that may be.

There's a lab across the street that comes over with the little boy who owns it and they play with my son and daughter all the time. Course since my girl is 5 myself or my wife is outside to watch her at all times.
Sorry but Labs are not killers like your pit.

I think there is a dog that was bred specifically for hog hunting. I think it LOOKS kind of like a pit but is completely different.

Incorrect. You are using only what the AKC says is registered with them. They only have just over 100,000 labs registered in the world with AKC. There are over 4 million pits in America alone.

What if its a lab/pit mix? Judgment call?

Must be a thing with inner city hunters from NO. I can promise you, there are no "hunting" pitbulls in North Alabama.

I would problably stand in the yard with my hand on my sidearm, yes I have my permit to carry, and give the individual time to capture the animal. But there would still be an altercation. To me it's no different than some one who has say a panther or a bobcat for a pet. They would completely understand my position as they headed back to their house.

See Trout. Told you they'd try t claim there were far more pits than we realize.... Hell, they're the most common dog in the US today.

But we have already established that labs will and can kill. HOW MANY CHILDS LIVES WILL IT TAKE?!

This breed of dog concerns me as I have 4 children. I would also shoot to kill any Pit that I see roaming loose in my yard.
Unfortunately, I am dealing with a Pit issue right now. Rented my other house to a couple with 4 children back in January. The lease agreement clearly stated NO pets over 10 lbs allowed and we emphasized this stipulation to protect our property as I just had the entire home done in hardwood flooring 2 years ago.
They moved in and within 3 weeks I get a call from my former next door neighbor who has 3 small children. He told me the renters had 3 adult Pits living at the house. They were very concerned...as expected. Called the guy and things got heated. Told him the dogs had to go....immediately. They were gone somewhere for two weeks but showed back up again but only now with 6 puppies. Guess one was pregnant. Called again and told him that he had basically told me to go screw myself, he didn't see the big deal, his dogs were nice. Told him I didn't care about how nice they were....I didn't want them damaging my house along with worrying about them snapping and either hurting or killing someone in that neighborhood. I could never live with myself knowing I stood by and let that occur. Finally evicted the trashy POS last week.
