When kids are playing with your dog while you're around, he knows you're the alpha so nothing is gonna happen

Gotta be more worried when you aren't around

I agree. Like I said, I'm not completely naive to the danger. These stories worry me a lot.

Spaniel bites a kid you're going to the medicine cabinet for band-aids and peroxide or something similar.

A pit bites a child your going to the emergency room, surgery, or the funeral home.

That's an assumption. Any dog can cause serious damage to a young child.

Alright, I'm leaving this topic. See everybody at the dog park this weekend. I'll be the one with the "vicious" pit bull.

I'm not going to castigate or attack you. I sincerely hope you never have to face your fears here. But let me ask you this. Is your child's life worth the risk of owning that dog?

Do these dogs vote , I just can't see what's keeping lawmakers from ridding the country of these animals .....

True. But the numbers don't lie. The danger from a Pit is so far above that of any other dog it's to the point you have to wonder is the breed even worth the risk?

My dog hasn't given me any reason to disown him or kill him. He's great with my kids. He's friendly to the neighbors. He's great with guests. The risk is there, but it's minimal.

Of course, I know how to own large breeds.

Thanks.

Believe me, if I ever feel like I can't trust him, he's gone.

I would not consider a pit a danger to my life. I would consider it a threat to the lives of my children. Thus, the reason I'd kill said pit the moment it stepped into my yard.

No way I find a risk small enough, even a "minimal" one, to knowing endanger my child.

I agree with Darth, pit steps on my yard with my kid there . . . he better start running. Now ay I am subjecting my child to that "minimal risk".

When I caught people trespassing on my land with pits, I tried to catch their dogs for them. However, I told them if I had been with my son, they would have had dead dogs.

Absolutely useless/worthless breed. No redeeming qualities what so ever. Other than target practice of course.

Should be some kind of public bounty program = $100 for any and all pits found roaming around.

Would be a great idea.
1. Make a little extra spending money
2. A year round open season (big plus)
3. Good substitute for range time
4. Perform a public service.
5. WIN

You see, apparently the Pit is very socially self conscious breed of dog. If it sees it's owned by a poor person this enrages the pit and turns it into a murderous beast. But if the Pit see's it's owner is at least upper middle class, it's as gentile as a newborn bunny.
or just maybe some people are responsible dog owners that get their dogs fixed, don't breed them to fight where they end up riddled with inbreeding, they socialize the dogs, they don't keep them on chains..... Just maybe some people take some responsibility for once. Maybe some people understand before getting the breed that there may need to be special precautions taken because of the strength of the dog and also because of the preconceived notions that some have about the dog.

Unfortunately a lot of trashy people love the breed.... That's one of the worst things that could have happened to the breed.

My mom is quite the opposite of trashy and she raised my Pitt for 12 or so years

I don't have kids yet, but if I ever thought there was a 0.01% chance my 35 lb pit bull would hurt my kid I would get rid of her in a heartbeat. Even though she is the calmest dog I've ever seen and has let kids play with cars all over her while wagging her tail, I would never let her be around a kid unsupervised. Little kids/babies shouldn't be around ANY dog unsupervised.
