You wouldn't have done shite. You'd have the exact same reaction as this guy. Your username has 72 making you 50 or 51. You'd have no chance with his speed and overall athleticism compared to yours. What he did is a total thug move and deserves to be charged, but let's not act we're unaware of how much faster/maybe stronger than a 50 year old caucasian guy

Keyboard warrior, you wouldn't have done shite. You'd have exact same reaction in reality as this. I think people have mentioned you're 50+. This kid would've been on you so fast, you wouldn't known what happened.

Why are you assuming that this student will be expelled. If he is a “Student With Exceptionalities,” then he is pretty much untouchable.

I have taught high school for 24 years. I don’t try to take kids phones because kids fly to level ten when you do.
Who knows what they have on them that they think the teacher can access by having the phone.
I have a charging station set up in the back of the room for anyone who wants to use it (away from where the students sit). If a kid can’t put his phone away I will make them put it in the charging area. I don’t think the issue is the kids can’t be away from their phone as much as they think I am going through their private stuff if I have it.
Also, if a student ever puts his hands on me I’m pressing charges.

Thanks for the laugh, cause as a matter of fact, there's been multiple occasions over the last few decades where it has happened. I've got a few greatest hits clips from campus security cameras too, if you're interested in viewing.
The truth of the matter, is that you tipped your hand regarding what YOU'D do in that situation based on your answer. Athleticism? We're not competing in a freaking decathalon you dumbdick.

In our Parish, the absolute worst that would have happened to this urban youth is a 45 day change of placement to the alternative school, and then he'd return (often with boosted and inflated grades too).
There's also a decent chance that if he's "special" enough and has the right documentation, it would be a 1-3 day slap on the wrist suspension.
Speaking of IEP's and exceptionalities, one of the best I saw was an "oppositional defiance disorder" where the individual had a documented problem with "white male authority figures". Truth.
