I’m looking hard between Honda and Toyota, Explorers also.

I’m reading all the replies, just getting busy at work, thanks again

I have an AWD RAV and I like it.

I have no need for a full size SUV.

Neither of these are SUVs, they are crossovers.

Brand new 2021 Subaru Outbacks and Foresters can be gotten for under 25k without all the bells and whistles.

If OP doesn't need a full size with third row then I would go Forester or Outback all day.

Technically, he is right.

For most drivers, it just hardly makes a difference anymore whether your vehicle is a crossover or an SUV, unless you let your ego make decisions for you.

Forester and Outback are also among the cheapest vehicles insure.

I'd like to see their cargo space specs compared to small SUV's.

He's not though. Crossover SUV is the full title. He's just one of the douches that has to act like if it's not based on a truck frame, it's not an SUV. He's wrong, and does this in just abut every thread about SUVs.

Crossovers are SUVs no matter how much it chaps his arse. They aren't as capable as traditional SUVs, but no one ever claims that.

I don't know the specs, but the Outback I used to drive had a ton of cargo space with the back seats down. Comparable to most mid-size SUVs.

No clue on the Forrester. Seems it'd be a bit smaller.

Do you want it to not break all the time?

12-15 xterra 12-18 4runner are in that range.

Both are bomb proof.

Maybe Acadias?

Depending on the year Acadia, be sure to check that it wasn't affected by the stretched timing chain issue they had in the late 00's and early 10's. I think they were affected up to the 14 model year.

This is a major issue and cost about $4k to repair. Thank God I got the dealer to "goodwill" warranty mine. We had an 07 with the issue and GM has a Technical Service Bulletin ( See Bulletin here) on them but we were 10k miles over the limit.

No worries, Baw.

My daughter just got a similar Rav4. The credit union gave us the money for less than 2%. that is almost like free money. In my searches, I saw a lot of Highlanders and Rav4's for sale with 250-280k on the clock. I hope hers lasts that long.

Here's a good read

quote:

The Forester is rated to tow up to 1,500 pounds. The Outback with the same engine can tow up to 2,700 pounds. Equipped with the 2.5T in the XT models, that tow rating increases to more than double that of the Forester, at 3,500 pounds.

quote:

Both are the same width between the wheel wells, at about 43 inches. However, the Outback's cargo floor is 7.5 inches longer than the Forester's, while its height is 2.7 inches shorter. It's also compromised by the shape of its tailgate, which tapers inward at the glass. The Forester is more of a box, with its full cargo height extending nearly all the way to the rear.

quote:

If it hasn’t been clear enough, we like the Outback better than the Forester, all things considered. The stronger interior quality, the stable ride, the superior infotainment technology and the better (we think) looks make the Outback well worth the reasonable price premium over the Forester. The turbocharged engine option in the Outback only extends its appeal to a broader customer set. Sure, there are some situations where a Forester might be a better fit for a buyer — things like the taller interior space, better visibility and improved maneuverability are all valid reasons one would go that route instead. For the rest of us, there’s the Outback.

Yeah they're both great vehicles. I went with the Forester for an off-road project car because I wanted the taller cargo space and the shorter wheelbase makes it easier to maneuver.

I was surprised at the difference in towing capacity.

you could probably get a nice deal on a pre-owned Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, or possibly a $ Runner at the higher end of the price point.
