Grandad talked about it being all over Europe during WWII to spook the krauts.

Kelly's Heroes. 
Great movie.
When my house was being built, the family and I wrote some blessings, scripture, names, etc. on some of the wood frame before the drywall went up. I couldn't help myself....I also drew Kilroy.

I'm familiar with it being born in 52. I even drew the character and did the graffiti on more than a few occasions.

The movie had an all star cast. Don Rickels, Telly Savalas , Donald Sutherland, Carrol O'Connor and others.
Think I'll watch it again this weekend.

Not sure how Styx made the connection, but in the 1980s, Kilroy was the inspiration for one of their albums…

Go back and watch the scene where the American tanks stage a surprise attack on the German train depot, as "I've been working on the railroad" is playing through Oddball's speakers. Pure destruction with no CGI - they demolish the place and march on down the road. Fantastic scene!
