What exactly are you doing that you're needed hands on for? It's one thing if you've got a lot of international business, but even then most of the bullshite people show up for isn't necessary. If you're not one of the people who has physical hands directly on the project or on whatever you do...why the frick do you need to be there in person?
Great fricking questions. Most of the time, I go to let them know I exist and to take the client to lunch. Waste of time but I never win that argument, so here we are.

consultants can fly almost every week.

I'd consider 104 segments a ton regardless of distance.

Made premiere 1K back in September. I had over 280K miles this year before I went to Key West. Sitting around 210K now. And around 4 more segments for global.

There’s no direct fights to philly on any airline out of Portland too. It’s brutal.

I sort of feel like 1/2 of business flying is just because the person wants to travel, not has to travel.
In my small company, our ED flies quite often, but he barely goes to the meetings, always has an excuse for why he didn't participate.
My direct manager flies a fair amount, often flying east coast to west coast for a 1 hour meeting, and then back.
Most of this could take place with phone calls or skype meetings. A lot of business travel is a waste of company money.

Every week? Portland and the PNW are nice, but if it was me i think i’d consider just relocating to the East coast, at least for the duration of the job.

I get a remote week every 8-10 weeks. My family is in Oregon so I can’t relocate. Got another year or so then back to San Francisco

I think I would love it.
It's overrated. I used to fly a lot for work, Delta Platinum (pre-Diamond tier) or American Exec Plat every year. Pre 9/11 it was pleasant to travel by air. Membership in the Crown Room or the Ambassador's Club was mandatory!
When I stopped traveling for work about 8 years ago, TSA was a royal PITA. Once past security, air travel was still nice since I almost always sat up front (airline status has its privileges).
I miss the air travel and the people I would meet while traveling--but DO NOT miss the airports or TSA.
It's better to be home.

I have a companion pass on southwest and status on delta and united from international travel. I have not always flown this much but I have this year.

So the dude 250,000 averages 680 miles per day? Or 20,000/mo? That's insane

Flying that much for work sounds like torture to me. I dont mind flying for vacations. But that much air travel for work would drain my soul. I hate air travel.

He is like the vp of sales for a company that makes anything with ports, like USB chargers. He goes to China a lot apparently.
He's also an Aggy but one of the coolest dudes I've ever met. So not like a normal Aggy.
Eta
He said last year was "only" 175k.

I averaged 140 segments for 5 years. It was great back then but you could not pay me to do it now.
