Dont try that today. An M855 round will zip right though most body armor. But then again most rifle rounds will do so. .308 or 30-06 will zip right through them. Problem was that the agents were drastically outgunned.
That is not the case anymore. Agents today carry a small arsenal. But then again a large portion of civilians in the south have guns in their trucks...

They weren't up against street punks but members of elite military units. In other words, they were probably better trained than the cops and I think at least one was a combat vet so they actually had an edge on the police besides in firepower.

Attended a training session at Blount/ CCI / Speer in Lewiston Idaho in '89 in the balastics session at CCI they referenced the bullet penetration depths on the victims in this case.
