My guess is that they feel the need to keep changing them instead of just improving them. Different suspension, different engine, different chassis. And this is every few years.
In comparison, the G-wagen is basically unchanged in 40 years.

Here is my husband's jeep(before he added winch and lights)

Military trailer. M40something I think. I never remember the numbers.
Real popular for people who can actually go off-road with their Jeeps.

Those military pull behinds are great. I just don't have enough shite to haul to justify it.
I will say having a 2 door sucked when I moved last summer

Something like this would be perfect for us.

That's the 401 or something. The bigger one is 100 or 101a. I looked at them but couldn't justify the price. They build them with crazy options. Prices fit.

We car camp. So if it ain't backpacking camping...might as well bring whatever you want. We have a lot of camping gear we've accumulated over the years.
We just got back from camping. We took both our jeeps because fitting all our gear and both our dogs...is a really tight fit. I mean...it can be done...but it really sucks. Once he installs his roof rack then that will solve that problem for us.
Also...no campfires allowed in the summers in many parts of AZ due to the threat of wildfires. So we have to bring a propane tank/portable campfire if we want a fire.

Yes four doors suck so bad and can't do anything …
Except a month after I bought my hard rock I drove to Telluride. Imogene pass, Poughkeepsie gulch, alpine loop, black bear pass, etc.
My four door will go wherever you think your two door can go.
As far as reliability. I've had mine a year last month. 32k miles, only oil changes and tire rotations. I did buy the Mopar lifetime unlimited mile warranty though just in case.

I never could get into camping camping. Sleeping on a screened in porch is as much camping as I can handle

I wish I had my jeep when I was in Sedona a few years back to see my grandparents. It's absolutely beautiful out that way. Now they live in Florida like old retired folk so I doubt I'll ever have a chance to go anytime soon.

The pic of my husband's jeep I posted is actually in Sedona (Schnebly Hill Road)

Until it doesn't.
Like I said earlier, a 4 door jeep is better than no jeep. I also think hard tops are ugly. They are far more practical than soft tops are,I just don't like the way they look. To each his own

Soft tops are so much louder than a hard top though.
Also...when I got my jeep I was still working nights. The hospital I work at is not in the best part of PHX. I worried a soft top would be more of a target to someone looking for a car to easily break into to.
My husband's first jeep was a soft top....I will say I think he really misses having a soft top at times.

Whatever hiking trail around snoopy rock was my favorite. It was hot as balls though, so like the tourist we were, we hit up slide rock
Seriously though, Arizona is beautiful

I still have never actually been to slide rock. Driven past it numerous times but never stopped there.

It really sounds like a Miata would fit you. Soft top. Short wheelbase. Two doors.
Soccer Moms won't drive them either.

Soft tops are absolutely impractical. It's Loud as frick, it leaks after a while, and anyone can just unzip your window and break in.
Although you do never have to worry about locking yourself out of it.
And it's nice being able to take it off in minutes by yourself.

Phuck all the naysayers...best vehicle I've ever had for overall enjoy ability...have an 05 Rubicon, bought it with a 113K miles (was a CarMax car) and now it has 140K 2.5 years later.
The 6cyl motor just chugs, even with 33"s and a 3" inch Teraflex. It's a 300K motor. Use synthetics.
