That was not delineated very well. I would say list as they all came from a major e-commerce website for cars. None of the dealers we've spoken to are willing to come off their list price.

Eta: we contacted several of the dealers directly and many of the vehicles were no longer available. We also discovered several were not the cash prices but finance prices with the cash price being several k higher.

Could it be:

The price listed on the valuation is the “asking price” of the seller.

They are deducting an arbitrary number for “negotiation” because no one (no normal person) is going to just walk in a pay retail. They are going to discuss with the seller and negotiate. However, it’s still just an arbitrary number on what they think you can negotiate off the price.

It sounds like your insurance company is using CCCone. Ask them to run an exception report and see if it comes back more.

You of course have the option to enact your appraisal clause (assuming you are in one of the majority of states that has that clause). That will cost you out of pocket for an appraiser though.

I know some people are saying “let your lawyer handle it.” Most attorneys don’t deal with it because there is no money in it for them. They may contact the carrier on your behalf and see if they can increase the value, but they won’t really fight for you on a property damage claim as they are much more worried about the big money medical claims.

This is where I was going.

ETA Deductions may be made based on what these vehicles may sell for vs what they’re listed for.

And that would be ok, but shouldn't they elucidate that on the report?

Also, given the rarity of the vehicle, rules of supply and demand are in play and dealers are less willing to come down.

DV isn’t relevant in this situation because its a total loss. DV is to compensate you for the hit you’ll take in the future when you to go sell or trade in the vehicle and the value is affected by having a prior accident on the vehicle history report.

It’s similar. Just he’s screwed now where in diminished value people are screwed later. He has to prove they owe him more money and a diminished value service just provides comparative analysis in a report that shows that. It’s worth exploring.

Update.

After much online research, we purchased a replacement vehicle yesterday from out of state. It's within the offered amount, but will have to be shipped at additional cost (buying a car sight unseen is a bit scary, bit its a certified pre owned vehicle).

We're still going to pursue this just a little longer as I still feel they undervalued ours and to cover the added shipping costs. I think they will come up a little bit in the, but if the don't so be it.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Meant to add, the offer should include sales tax.

As in "car + sales tax".

Update: After providing them with additional information, the insurance company reran the comps. They were significantly improved so we accepted their offer.

If the correct value covers the shipping that would be great, but they wont pay the shipping costs directly as it’s not owed.

ETA I should have kept reading. Glad it worked out for you.

Yeah we were just hoping to offset the cost, we knew that wasn't part of what was owed. In our case it was worth it to go out of market and pay the shipping as those two things were less that the mark up in our local market.
