Those numbers may be an average but they are not a really accurate representation of the average American.
Those number have to be pretty skewed by the huge outliers. You have the morbidly obese that check in at 400, 500, hell up to 1400 lbs. World's heaviest person is an American that weighed 1400 lbs.
And since you can't have a person weighing in at -1200 lbs, the super fatties really skew those "averages".

I am above average in height and weight and well below average in waist circumference.
