Not really. You're complaining about something so minor it's really a moot point

I have a take home car. We don't use it off duty unless we are in the city. I have used it to respond to emergencies like call outs in the middle of the night, last years ice storm, etc.

You're not very well read.

I live in the parish that has the best Sheriff's Office in the State of Louisiana and that's Ascension. It's extremely well run, competent and very professional. I haven't heard so much as a peep about a bad cop from them at all in years. They actually catch the bad guys and put them away and they don't tolerate any mistakes or incompetence from its deputies. Jeff Wiley is a great Sheriff.

I agree.

It is worthy of discussion.

Examples of this are car salesmen that get demos and apartment employees that get "free" apartments. They have to pay income tax on these benefits and so should cops. If BRPD does pay income tax on this income, then good for them.

Well, those aren't really good examples, although your point is valid.

A better example would be a salesman who is given a company car as prt of his compensation package. Technically, he would report as income the % of time he uses the car for personal errands or when he is actually commuting to the office.

Now, if the officer is on duty and getting paid when he is driving to and from the station, then he isn't commutting, he's "at work".

I'm pretty sure the little smartass that tailgated and then flew by me in Madisonville while he was in a JPSO unit was just house-hunting, though. He also lacked the balls to stop after I pulled over, so there's that.

When I see a BTR cop car parked at a residence in another parish/town, did the cop buy his own gasoline to get to and from work? Does he pay for the oil changes and tires etc.? Or do we tax paying citizens pay for it?

If I see a cop car parked near my residence I truly DGAF about such things. A fleet of a dozen marked cruisers parked in my front yard are welcome.

You agree with me or him? Your reply to me and then say you agree and say it's worthy of discussion. It's very confusing

How am I not well read?
SFPD pays decently and they have many educated, liberal cops on the force. And i loved the shows Monk and streets of san fransisco.

Taxpayers generally foot the bill...BUT generally take-home cars are taken care of better by their assigned officer, kept cleaner, and aren't running 24/7, leading to a higher resale value at auction...

Most people also enjoy having a police cruiser parked nearby as it is a deterrent.
