Probably a Glock. Because of ease of use and magazine capacity. Police carry it for a reason.

Any gun you have on you is better than nothing. Get something you are comfortable with. For handgun get what fits your hand best don’t get hung up on name brand any offering from the majors will function. For long gun I would lean towards ak as they are easier to use and not as temperamental when it comes to ammo. Hard to beat a high cap shotgun as well but recoil will be heavier than a semi auto rifle.

I don't get anywhere near 15 inches out of my Benelli. But in fairness I do use an IC with ammo that patterns tighter. I'm sure if I went down to full bore and used run of the mill 00 buck my pattern would open up.
