No matter what you get, you need to practice with it. I can’t remember the stat, but in “high stress” situations you are like 20% as efficient/effective with a gun (I.e. the adrenaline is going to make you shake and miss)

Just watched one of the “live” cop shows where a cop fired on a perp from a stationary standing position at about 20 feet, fired 8-9 rounds from a Glock and only hit the guy once in the arm

If you aren’t comfortable with it and proficient. Brush up on your blade work knives are very efficient don’t be fooled.

Kalishnikov KR9. 9mm, ammo is light cheap and everywhere. Usual Kalishnikov dependability. Gun itself is also very light and accurate as frick. Proper ammo and you'll stack rioter bodies left and right.

I like to keep a shell not chambered just so I can rack that motherfricker coming down the hall.

I once had a .410 Mossberg 500 cruiser 18.5-inch barrel with the pistol grip. It was the only black gun in my collection.

Okay.....thread got me on a search. Just bit the bullet (pun intended) and bought this today....

Also ordered 1,000 rounds, four 30rd mags and a nice case. More to go have fun with than anything else.

You could do a lot worse than a Hi Point. I don't own one myself, but for people who don't have a lot of cash to spend a Hi Point is a good option.

Ahh, the "shoot here" signal. To each his own. I prefer the quiet click of my safety flipping off of my already chambered weapon.

ETA: Oh yeah. The question. The best gun for personal protection is the one you train regularly with and will keep near you at all times. If you don't practice with a gun and know how to use it inside and out, when you need it to save your life at 3 am, you will die fumbling with your gun. If you won't have it near or on you and you need it to save your life, you'll die wishing you hadn't left it wherever you left it.

Practice, practice, practice, and carry it.

The answer is an AR15. You need the magazine capacity.

Overpenetration is a meme. Your shotgun is still going through your walls.

The decibel level concern is also a meme. Firing a gun indoors will be hell on your ears either way, but at least you can get a suppressor for your AR15 relatively easily.

Noise probably works to your advantage in terrifying your attackers.

Your family should have a plan in place for what happens should you ever have to use a gun in the home, meaning ideally you won’t be shooting in areas where penetration is a huge concern and noise and communication won’t be a big deal because you already have a plan in place.

If not an AR15 ... a pistol caliber carbine is a great alternative. Hollow points ofcourse.
