expect many companies to cut 401k matching And maybe never to reinstate
I don’t. That is a perk that companies offer to entice good talent. If you own a company and your competition offers 401K, it will be harder to get employees if you don’t.
The O&G industry went through this 5 years ago. No one cared. Now other industries are dealing with this. My health benefits were cut, 401k cut, furloughs, salary reduction. It all came back when O&G companies started hiring again. Much easier for a company to reinstate 401k compared to that salary reduction...

Once the owner gets the hint that he's losing employees, benefits like that start creeping back into the picture again. I mean, we're not talking about a car allowance or a $100,000 bonus or anything. We're talking a very basic benefit that I'm sure even McDonald's offers.

Probably double the work load.

We are moving towards a work environment were you will be paid well with little benefits. I like the idea. Let me decide how to spend my money.

Maybe I’m cynical, but most employee benefits have gradually been reduced over the past years
Pensions? Lol
Full health insurance? Ha. Most everyone paying more and more out of pocket every year
Sick/Vacation days? Been overall reduced

I work for a soul-sucking, publicly traded, multinational large cap; this was the first thing they did.

Our 401K match was suspended back around May 1st

I hope no one would leave a company for a better 401k match. Unless it was like a 20% match

I been working under a paycut since march, and it will extend till the end of September.

Went through this 2 months ago. But hey, I got invited to a webinar:

Exactly
It’s easy to shut everything down when you’re getting full pay and benefits

I think you are missing the point of his post. We are talking about a climate with a shite ton of layoffs. Then after the storm, companies are hiring again.
Suddenly, you are in demand and have some offers with 401k match, 100% health, car allowance, etc. Meanwhile your current company still on a salary reduction.
O&G went through this not too long ago. There is a blueprint. Some industries will struggle ramping back up compared to O&G.

401k matches are suspended
We are discussing this now
If we suspend, we will increase our ESOP stock %

I think that would be a longterm bad move, though I get the desperatation in the short term.
