No.

If you were given a year to train, could you run 26.2 miles?
No.
I have a relative that ran it multiple times, and she was big into the running lifestyle (runs every day at least 8-12 miles) and she would finish within time, but it took more than a year to ramp up to that.

But I’d say with a year to train, more than 50% of the OT could complete it.
You severely underestimate the amount of fat asses on the board.

Meh, if you run 21 miles per week (3 miles a day), it would take about 3-4 months to build up to a full marathon. And there are plenty who run 3 miles a day. ~30 minutes of cardio per day is not absurd.
This is not to be competitive by any means. Those people are running 60+ miles per week and will ramp up higher than that when doing a build for a race. But to finish, that's what a typical plan's timeline would be.

My fastest average time for a 5k was 7:22 per mile and I had been training for an entire summer and was probably in the best shape of my life. I sprinted the entire 3.1 - I would need to cut off 19 more seconds per mile and run that 8 more times the distance in order to just qualify. So no, I definitely could not.

Avg OTer would have taken home some prize money (and...six women)
Seriously though...what time gets you in the top 500?
Ran high 2:40s last year for low 400s placing. That was with the worst conditions in the history of the race. Normally for that placing, you would need to run around 2:40 flat.

That's impressive especially given the conditions last year.
You running again next week?

Win it? Average user of this site..win the most high profile marathon in the country?
Do you know what the word average means?
Not the best, not the worst. Emphasis on not the best.

For a random marathon, yes, you could train and complete it. Most people couldn't qualify for the Boston marathon let alone win it.

My boss ran in it last year and is running again Monday. He ran a three something. It wasn’t his best time but he was pretty happy to get what he got in that weather.

The weather last year was absolutely awful. Felt bad for those runners. I would usually go out and cheer people on for a while, but not in that crap.
Really hoping for better conditions next Monday.

Nope. Ran the last 5 years and after last year was ready for a break from it. It's the best race in the world though!

Nah, runner's high is a real thing. And it's great to be in top physical shape. I really miss my running years but eventually the knees gave out.
