I was off. He’s in Hammond not Covington.
Dr Syed Rab.
Dr. Syed Rab
Father just said it’s not just that he’s a great doctor but also his staff is top notch which wasn’t the case at the many other doctors he went to.

What life changes are there for kidney disease? Drink more water less alcohol? Not even sure if foods impact kidneys much, maybe they do? Hell does smoking even effect your kidneys?

Nah, eat as much and whatever you want and rip heaters, you'll be fine. Doesn't matter at all.

We aren't sure yet. He's read things about less meat, less alcohol, this, that, etc. That's why we are trying to find the best of the best to give him the right advice. If any of those are true, he's willing to do it.

I’m 49 and am dealing with kidney disease. I had my first visit to a specialist on Monday and he said that I’ve lost 30% function. He’s optimistic that he can keep me at that level. I’m going back in November for further testing to determine if it’s chronic or acute. I’m in damn good shape for a 49 y/o so I wasn’t expecting to be dealing with something like this.

That’s good, seems alcohol is obvious to cut out. Regarding meat it gets so controversial it’s hard to know what to believe

You said something absolutely retarded. I didn't make you do that

It's not controversial at all if you use research from past the 1980s

My dad is in Stage 3b and that is honestly one of the least of his PCP's worries about his morbidity, as he has Parkinsons and some lasting effects of a stroke.
He started having issues with kidney function probably 20 years ago (he just turned 80) due to high blood pressure that was very difficult to control. He has no outwardly apparent renal issues at all, and his doctors have all said other things will cause his demise before this will.
His doctor has said the number one thing Dad must do to preserve the renal function he has left is drink water. Don't overload with protein, but drinking the water is integral. So Dad drinks a ton of water daily, and his kidney function has been very stable for several years now.

I’m 6’0, weigh 187, walk two miles/day five times per week and do two sets of 50 push-ups every other day. Nothing earth shaking, but I’m FAR from the normal dad bod for a nearly 50 year old.
ETA: None of that means squat when it comes to my condition.

You're slightly overweight. If you drink alcohol regularly and/or have a suspect diet there's a chance your metabolic health isnt great.
Those are just the facts, don't kill the messenger

Stage "whatever" kidney disease is a catch all term. What is more important is the cause of it. diabetes vs hypertension vs obesity vs smoking vs diet vs many many other things
Its a simple lab value that can be any doctors office can draw, but doesnt really tell you anything if you dont know the cause.
he needs to see a nephrologist or a good internist

I’m 44 but similar routine, I do jump rope also, goes back to my boxing days. Hopefully everything gets figured out for you and OPs dad. Drinking lots of water seems to be a big help from what some have said in here

Gonna need to watch your diet, blood pressure and diabetes if present. It's irreversible but you can keep it from getting worse by monitoring the 3 I just mentioned and excersing.
