Well shell says there going to become and electric company and get out of oil and has. So they’ll be selling all oil assets.
Exxon has a long stable track record.

You’ll eventually hate yourself and your S/O if you work for Exxon in Baton Rouge.
Work at Shell. Your life will be better.
ETA: I switched to chemical. Big oil isn’t where I wanted to be. I worked 2 years at Exxon as a contractor and 3 years at Shell for company. The difference was night and day.

Well I read Shell is more stable as a company because they have a back up plan when oil consumption declines in the future. They're not planning to get out of the oil industry.

I've heard that from a couple people. The only thing is the drive to Shell is about 15 mins longer Haha.

I’m an operator at a major in the nola area.
I’d definitely take Exxon over Shell Norco.

Wrong. A good operator that’s an expert on his unit and is willing to take advantage of the tuition assistance (sometimes 70-80% covered) will move up VERY FAST

Yeah, the replies are about 50/50 between the two. Looks like it's gonna be a tough discussion if Exxon makes an offer.

Right. And what percentage of operators do this? Not what percent say they are going to, what percent actually do.

Used to be 100%

No idea how old you are. Shell will pay more. Exxon will offer better benefits probably. But neither is gonna send you to management if you’re an operator unless you plan on an engineering degree later. Exxon people are moving to Shell a lot the past few years though but not as operators.

Depends on what level management you refer, but you can get pretty high without a degree.

I prefer Exxon's benefits. I have clients from both

All the majors do it. Go to school online for something that pertains to the industry like a BA in industrial technology, project management, Safety, Fire Science etc.
Keep your grades up and they reimburse you each semester, usually 70-80%

Most of the guys under 30 at my facility are doing it, myself included.
We also only hire people with associates or higher so guys are transferring their credits and doing 2-3 years online to get their BA.
We’re losing guys left and right to Texas and California do to them moving up within the company
