I see. Those kind of people stumble upon some good perspective sometimes too.
The best teacher is experience. Its amazing to reach 40 years of age, and realize how much you have changed, and others have too.

I agree. Because there is no single approach, unless you're a type A anal personality.

We've been married for 20 years and have a 21 yo and an 18 yo .love her but she's become a bitter, mean, alcoholic. I can't tie my happiness to the whims of this crazy person anymore. Tips on how you finally took the plunge.
Sounds like she needs help. Don’t let her off the hook. Nut up, engage the battle, and be relentless in forcing her into treatment.
For better or worse, dog.

i mean Mingo can be a fricking douche but its usually because he says the shite people dont want to hear. but he is usually right
he is right here, most people have no self awareness and can not see any wrong in their actions ever and will never admit fault or being wrong.
again he is right here. especially the 2nd part. and most of the guys addicted to politics are frickign miserable always stressing and worrying about shite they really have no control over.
now as far as the OP goes, he need to suggest marriage counseling and rehab. from there let the counselor set the path. hell even going to counselig will prolly lead to a path of them suggesting rehab to her.
if she refuses rehab....well headed for the BIG D.

Going through it myself at the moment. Luckily no kids, she's had a stable job this whole time, and we never joined accounts.
Still hate it though.
That being said, all the divorced older guys I know who are on the other end all seem to be quite happy.

Sounds like he's past that point, he's looking to disengage. I think he's made the decision.

I actually agree with most of this. I think its more of the tone with you. You're not wrong though. Not in this case. Its a generalization and there are exceptions, but a terrible wife/ partner can push you towards a lot of these without realizing it. Its hard to see what you've become when you are with a toxic person until you step away and gain perspective.

Most will end up wanting you to come back, tell you they've changed, etc. Mine did, I made the decision not to go back.

Adult things happen. When you're a grown up and have a little experience behind you, you'll be on your way.
That's why people aren't as hard on you as they should be, its just pity.
hold rog...i have never said shite about you but the shite you talk about on here including always sleeping around, being into the lifestyle and all the other shite.....thats not adult things, thats childish actions.
you can act however you want, but dont take a moral high ground when your past is filled with complete and utter immorality and act like you are the adult and unless others have the same kind of expierence than they are children.
its not like mingo is telling someone how to raise a child, he is talking about just being a good and decent person. stop geting your panties in a wad over getting called out over your own past actions that you made public. and sure as frick dont act like you have some superiorty over anyone here.

I will keep it short and sweet.
No wife, happy life. If yours is anything like mine, you will realize soon after she is gone how little value to your life she actually provided.
Every aspect of my life has improved after the dust of the original battle settled.
I would encourage you to keep the house. Moving sucks and although she will gain equity in the current inflated market, she will lose it buying her next place.

Never said I was proud of it.
But you too have your price.
When lil Mingo has been faithful for 18 years, he can talk.

hold up, you dont have to have years upon years expierence keeping it in your pants and being faithful to know when shite is wrong.
shits not that frickign hard and dont act like because you have done it the last 18 suddenly you have some moral superiorty over others on here, because you dont.
i mean i like you and usually find your post good and hell lord knows mingo can get under my skin some too, but im sorry got to call a spade a spade.

I take my share of responsibility for my 1st marriage failing but holy shite my ex was a legit psycho. 8 years later and I'm still finding out things she was doing in secret.

My first wife was amazing, for 18 years. The last one sucked. Its not totally her fault though.

Mingo is a massive striver but he's right that you don't suddenly wake up married to someone who gets in with a bad crowd or starts shooting up by wholesome accident.
In 99% of those scenarios a dude married a girl with high sketch potential, even if not yet fulfilled, and there were multiple people in his life who told him that.
