When I built my house I put the condensing unit on the north side so it never gets sun. But it really doesn't make as much of a difference as you'd think. From a thermal standpoint the controlling factor is the temperature of the air blowing over the fins. Sun on the condensing unit has a relatively minor impact. Misting the air to the fan seems like a pretty good idea.
