shite, I need to look into that. Listening to Tomcats and Hornets take off and land for years isn't really good for your hearing.

No way I’d enlist today, though. Those last 4-5 years were awful with the sensitivity training nonsense.
Is it really as bad as they say? I sounds like they’re turning into a bunch of Nancy’s but I was holding out hope that it was just right wing ‘journalism’ being dramatic.

I regret not joining. I probably wouldn't be such a baby back bitch if I had served.

I work for one of the contractors that VA has handle C&P exams (LHI, QTC, VES). Yes, tinnitus is a 10% rating. One of those automatically assumed with any noise exposure in service, especially when claim filed within a year of discharge.

I’ve been out of work for about a month. Starting to consider applying for JAG positions. Anyone have any insight into that lifestyle?

It would give you an opportunity to get out of Baton Rouge and see what it’s like living as an Officer. Man get out and see what life is like outside of Baton Rouge.
I was enlisted, got out as an E-7 so I can’t say what it was like, however if I had to do it all over again I would have joined the Officer Corps via ROTC or the OCS route.
You’re a lawyer, you possess the skills the JAG Corps is looking for. The only question that remains, is that in 20-30 years from now would you regret the decision not to serve? Even the Reserve option could be an option for you, since you recently bought a house in BR.

same here I went in as enlisted but if I had to do it all over again the officer program is the way to go. Sure you have an obligation to serve the military after college but if you choose to stay in or get out after the obligation the limits are boundless due to the experience and the leadership opportunities you get in the military. Also the pay and the housing is so much better as an officer while you are serving your duty MOST of the time.

That's when you start to realize how the great times outweigh the bad, and some wind up reenlisting because of it. It's the best and worst time of your life, and right now all you see is the latter. Of course, unless you're a shitbag and then there is just no recourse for you.
Report back when you have 6 months left.
Or the people who decide to stay in the military are those who wouldn't make it in the civilian world, they know they don't have to earn their check they can often times just show up, keep their nose cleaned and they are likely to be promoted.
I'm leaving the military because it was a literal waste of time.
I will pick up a few certs (hopefully) and be finish with my masters (also hopefully) by the end of my ets. I just have a much larger vision outside of the Army. While it was not all bad, there is a time where growth stops. At least for me it did. I feel so much boxed in.

101st Airborne Division, 1974-76 Vietnam Era.
Do not regret one minute of it. Draft had just ended and I enlisted into the All-Volunteer Army while a senior in high school. Had to convince my parents to sign for me cause I was just 17. Left for Ft. Polk, LA. 2 weeks after graduation.
Vietnam was coming to an end as they were pulling troops out and I had the honor of meeting and serving alongside many battle-hardened soldiers. Whoever says that soldiers were not treated badly during this time was either to high to remember or they are in denial. They were scorned and looked down to for doing what their country ordered them to do.
Saw other parts of the world and met many great friends. Highlight was going to Jungle Warfare School in Panama, Canal Zone. Earned my Jungle Expert Patch.
My only regret is that I didn't re-up and stay a few years longer. Would not join in today's environment due to politics. Democrats are destroying our fighting machine. God Bless all of my brothers & sisters who have served or is serving.

I joined the Army when I was 17 and retired when I was 38. I’m 46 now and am about to hit 7 years working at my current job. I’m not OT rich, but between my Army Retirement check, my VA Disability Check and my regular check I get a little over $100K a year.
My wife and I also have health insurance through my employer and Tricare. In the last 5 years she’s had 2 surgeries and I’ve had 1. We haven’t had to pay a dime for any of them. The total for all 3 surgeries was somewhere around $160K.
I used to regret not going to college. But if I did I would have never lived in Panama, Germany or Thailand. I probably would have never left Louisiana.

No...I was in from '79 to '99 so the stupidity was just getting started.

You get out of it what you put into it.
Just like anything else.
I did my time in the Regular Army, reserves, and national guard.
Everyday was not unicorns and rainbow farts.
I got out of it what I wanted out of it.

Agree with your assessment. If he can apply for an appointment in the JAG corps (regardless as to branch of service) he ought to do it.
