re: Doctors, specifically pediatricians, who can’t keep appointment times

Called my primary care this morning. Booked- I can come in Friday. I’ll take anyone available. All booked but I can see his nurse at noon. Hacking cough, congestion and sore throat day 8. I’m fine with the nurse. Noon 05 I had a shot as 3 prescriptions called in and a 12:15 I’m heading to Albertsons to pick them up. Text in Albertsons parking lot saying my scrips were ready.
No complaints here. I’ve spent my fair share waiting but I have good doctors that spend time with me and I don’t mind. I also know how busy they are and don’t mind seeing their nurse practitioner for regular maintenance.
I’ll also hit a doc in the box if I think I can get in and out for stitches, poison ivy etc...

Thank God I’m married to someone with a DEA number and a script pad. I’ve never been to an urgent care in my life.

It is frustrating, but I also blame the schools for this. They require a doctor's note for absences. And sometimes your kid is too sick to go to school but not sick enough to need a doctor. Stomach bugs and colds pass easily for most children and don't require medical intervention. But now you practically have to turn up at the doctor for that golden note. It's turned peds into glorified secretaries. I wonder how many appts per day are just useless record keeping endeavors.

My point in my other posts is that if they get an hour behind every day, they should schedule so this doesn't happen. It gets a lot of downvotes when you question the cash cow that is their livelihood.
Your frustration is clouding your judgement. Physicians are the primary recruiters of other physicians. Physicians are the employers of midlevels (NP and PA), the owners of urgent care facilities, the members of county medical societies, and the driving force behind nearly all medical care developments.
We are not against competition we welcome it, we support it, we proof it, and strive to shine above it. To do so thougb we have to remember we are in a customer service related industry. Most providers feel immense stress to stay on schedule while providing compassionate, through, and accurate care. Caring about patient's health outcomes, desires, satisfaction, and time is actually what is valuable to us.
Scheduling is not a simple process nor is there a simple solution. Even in the extreme example I posted earlier, many patients in both groups would still be unhappy and complain.

not just them, most doctors do it. they set up 12:00, 12:15, 12:30, and 12:45 apt then you hear the nurse tell someone in the back he always comes in at his normal time at 1:00.
so the guy with the 12:00 apt has to wait a full hour and the doctor isnt even in the bldg. then it still takes the doctor 30 minutes to settle in and be ready for the first patient.
that is why i refuse to be scheduled first, i always make them give me a time at least an hour after the first apt

Pediatricians are often women.
Pediatricians are often the idiots of their med school class.
Now you understand.
My sons current pediatrician is a man. He's has female peds at the same practice though. No difference in waiting time. It's just a high demand office. I want them to be thorough so I don't mind my wife waiting a few mintues.

This actually makes things run more smoothly and cuts wait times for most people. The nurse can get all of the triage questions and preliminary screening out of the way, and the doctor can then just roll from room to room instead of standing around waiting on the nurse to get a patient ready.

It's really easy...go find another doctor. I mean, if you aren't happy with the office you take your kids to, find another. From experience, I bet he or she isn't back there screwing around and wasting time. You think your doctor doesn't want to get home as fast as she can??
My wife is a pedi, she is busy AF because she cares and she is very good. This time of year, is nuts, and will be probably until April. But I'm sure some patients leave her because she is so busy, and even so, she won't make patients (or parents) feel rushed when she hits the room. If more left her, then her days would be easier, but they won't. They'll wait, because the way she takes care of kids is worth it.
It is important to me to minimize wait times in my office, just as it is to my wife in hers. My specialty is easier to stay on time, provided I don't have to make an unscheduled visit to the OR or for a delivery, but I get behind sometimes as well. I make sure I acknowledge the importance of time to the patient if I am running behind, but rest assured, I'm looking to get home as soon as I can rather than be at the office killing time.

I don’t know any docs who actually belong to the AMA. They spend their money on the American Association and American Board of XYZ specialty.

I miss my pediatrician in the Bay Area. She was the best pediatrician ever. Sadly she made less than RNs. Wish she had a tip jar...

Schedule your appt first thing in the morning or first appt after lunchtime.

Yeaaaaah, probably not.
But keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel important and stuff

If they want me to respect their time, then respect mine. Thanks.

That does not seem like a normal wait time at a pediatrician. Perhaps you should look for another one. I’m not sure there is a good reason to go to one other than the annual visit though.

This is why we need to flood the market with Doctors.
