Correct, the only true Cajuns are the ones who can trace their ancestry back to the Acadia region of Nova Scotia when the British kicked them out. Take Avoyelles Parish for example, it is full of French speaking people and French surnames but very few "Cajuns" as most of the families trace the roots directly back to France and not through Canada.

Yep.

No. I can't quite put my finger on it but there's a difference.

I figure a Coonass buys his etouffee from a Cajun.

Yes. They aren't Cajun unless they can trace their ancestors back to south Louisiana.

Not quite. While most did move to Louisiana and most Cajuns will go back to Louisiana at some point, it isnt the case 100%. Some went to Maine and other places

This is who a Cajun will trace to:

consisting of the descendants of Acadian exiles (French-speakers from Acadia in what are now The Maritimes of Eastern Canada).
So in saying that ones parents may be Boston Southies who like drinking from the bubbler, and guess what? They would still be Cajun

It's really not because you're completly wrong. You can't be both Cajun and a Yankee. Sorry bro, it doesn't work that way.

You are so wrong it is hilarious.

My parents are Boudreauxs, whose ancestors came directly from Nova Scotia, making them Cajuns. They then give birth to me in New York and I grow up saying you guys and knocking over old ladies to get to a cab. I would be a Yankee who is Cajun. That isnt a debate

I come from a long line of proud N MS, W TN rednecks. Those people are not rednecks.

For the most part, but there are some decent folk there too.

What you're not grasping in infact despite you living up north you are first and for most a Cajun. A Yankee who moves here (LA) and and have Yankee babies with a Yankee woman, the offspring will still be Yankees.
