Take Avoyelles Parish for example, it is full of French speaking people and French surnames but very few "Cajuns" as most of the families trace the roots directly back to France and not through Canada.

My parents are Boudreauxs, whose ancestors came directly from Nova Scotia, making them Cajuns. They then give birth to me in New York and I grow up saying you guys and knocking over old ladies to get to a cab. I would be a Yankee who is Cajun. That isnt a debate

What you're not grasping in infact despite you living up north you are first and for most a Cajun. A Yankee who moves here (LA) and and have Yankee babies with a Yankee woman, the offspring will still be Yankees.
