What did smitty supply actually do? My take is they sell hand sanitizer and bleach to hospitals annd nursing homes etc that carelessly left chemicals laying around and they blew up?

They take delivery of radioactive and other hazardous materials and facilitate the reincorporation of those materials into the planet.

quote:easy, it wasn’t Exxon, Ecolab, Facebook, or SLB who owned that plant . Just like in the private sector, you move up by hooking the big fish . I assume the same thing with the EPA . you don’t get promoted to upper levels of management $$$$ by taking down Smitty’s . you get promoted to upper levels by taking down RD Shell.
The question here is what agency was responsible for inspecting that place and why was it neglected?

I worked there in the late 90's for a spell. Once, they had miscalculated the pressure for the tanks holding Antifreeze and the valves blew out, dumping 1000's of gallons out, way over the retaining walls. I thought "man, EPA is gonna shut us down." A couple of bosses jumped on backhoes and tilled it all into the ground, parking lot, etc. until all of the green puddles were gone. No agency ever came. We had a yellow jacket infestation for weeks because they were drawn to the substance. Stuff like that happened all of the time. I always figured it was because the company donated tons of money to elected officials and because most everyone had relatives working there that nothing ever happened. Surprised they got away with it for as long as they did.
