if you look at data while controlling the student's income variable, the US isn't that much behind the top countries, if behind at all ... not complaining about unequal income or anything ... just stating what i've read in several places ... course, higher income is the result of behavior, more than anything else ...
I would tell the board the real reason educaion in the US is declining but I don't want to catch a ban!

there are multiple reasons, not just one ... parents and their values ... the quality of teachers ... the ancient and inefficient way k12 education is run by the admins ... etc ...

Did we? I thought we had abandoned them to the Soviets?

It is a shame, because parents are almost forced to send their kids to private schools even after paying taxes for public schools, which the federal government has run into the ground, as they usually do.
You should have studies more civics. LOL
ETA: to point out the obvious fact that the federal govt does not control our public schools. They are usually run by local elected school boards.

It was sarcasm on my part. The Finns fought the shite out of the Soviets in the Winter War and all during WWII. I'm assuming this guy is confusing them with the Swiss. Thereby demonstrating poor schooling.
And there is nothing saying we MUST maintain our large standing army. We choose to so that we may project power for our own aims. Priorities.

I was reading something today at work that said Teachers were paid like doctors in Norway

Exactly. And education is valued. I'd like to compare to American blonde haired blue eyed kids. My girls both meet this same demographic and have 4.0's and high IQ's. Despite our educational system. What's the culprit? The education? Genetics? Social influences? I'm gonna say the last two are just as important as the first.
Excellent and correct despite those who want to scream something beginning with "r." I would also be willing to bet that you are actively involved in their education, too.
