actually, according to cnn money's cost of living calculator, making $65k in BR is the same as making $81.6k in Scottsdale. cost of living difference doesn't appear to be negligible.

It's cost of LIVING. Where do you live?

And if you live in BR you still have to shell out thousands of dollars for private school tuition since the public school system is horrible.

Not the case here.

I'm just saying that you're getting paid there what you'd be getting paid in BR. it's not peanuts. but better schools and weather and lifestyle activities are certainly a good reason to stay.

Just saying...I've lived in BR and then here. When I moved here I did not notice a difference in prices of things out here.

Anytime I come to BR to visit I don't notice things being sooo cheap compared to AZ either.

Scottsdale = "Beverly Hills of the Desert" often called "Snobsdale." This according to a good friend that grew up in Scottsdale

Well, true. It depends on a lot of things. How many kids. And as much on what school you put them in. You can find some private schools much cheaper than others, or you can go for the Episcopal bill.

Last time I checked, B and N were child free, so today, it would be -0-, and the cost of living difference would be around 21%. My point was that's not equal.

It def has it's share of that here. I don't hang out with those type of people though. I know what you mean, my ex used to be an event planner for the big culinary festival here and I had to be social with those types of folk and hated it.

But...it's still a nice, safe place to live at. With great schools and access to great places to shop and eat at. And close enough to other areas in the Valley. And lots of social events if one feels like it.

when our oldest started high school, that school was not even in the picture, but she did pick the number 2 on the list (if sja is even #2, it has to be damn close)
