Agreed. However, media outlets are saying she is the first African-American to win gold in an individual swimming event. That, is actually false. This African-American won gold in the 50m freestyle in 2004
I was watching live and they very clearly said she was the first African American female to medal in an individual swimming event.

To me it seems like a select group of people are looking for something to be upset about this morning.
Probably has more to do with the current events.
Every where I see media, news, etc telling my not to be racist, but I need to acknowledge ones race 1st as if it is some type of quality. Which is in direct conflict with not being racist.

You also might be apart of the minority on this board that views America as a melting pot as a positive.

I remember when Charlize Theron called herself an African-American at an awards show. No one laughed.
Yea, my dad is from Africa and my mom is from America. So I'm fairly positive that makes me African American based on genetics

Yeah, I thought they included female as well. Either way I don't think it's that confusing on it's face, I think the phrasing in the OP made it more confusing than it really is

So to me, it is almost saying here, you get a dash because you arent real Americans. I know it isnt a huge deal, and I am not going to protest over it, but it is simple coffee conversation with my two black friends Jbeam and Tbird
But Im also not going to categories it as "divisive".

Eh, that's a reach. When the AA term first gained popularity, it represented a huge step forward BECAUSE it officially recognized said demographic as Americans.

Alright, NOW I'm offended!
I prefer the term, "Texan-American," good sir

I don't believe I've ever in my life verbalized the word "African American" unless it is to point out what a totally asinine term is is.

Me either.
"That's not my beer. That's for my athletic friend over there."
That's how I usually roll.

I wonder what percentage of "African Americans" can find Africa on a map.

wut? You talking about the fact that ADD is an overwhelmingly bullshite diagnosis? Or are you referring to me correctly pointing out that the climate change awareness industry is a scam and the push for lgbtqxyz8=D acceptance is stupid?
