Everyone needs to check out energy ogre. You pay them $10 a month and they constantly find the best service provider for you. Sometimes it will be a 3 month contract, sometimes 12. They automatically cancel your service and enroll you in another.

Parts of Texas deregulated and companies compete for your business. There are a lot of companies offering different rates and promotions to get customers.

Powertochoose website is the website to compare all the companies.

$120/year for that? Does it really justify the costs or are people too lazy / ignant to find the best one for their lifestyle / house?

Power to choose is run by some distributer and they get kickbacks; energy traders / providers purposely make this shite convoluted to squeeze out extra $$ from consumers.

My current website to shop is Texaspoweruide

Yes. It's worth it in my opinion. I don't want to deal with that.

Be wary of the search results on PowerToChoose, as retailers game them with teaser rates that lead you to overpay if you don’t read the fine print and do the math. Do-it-yourselfers can try TexasPowerGuide as a better way to search those same plans.

And don’t be afraid of discount providers. Many of them are just alternate/value brands of the same corporate parent (i.e. NRG owns Reliant, Green Mountain, Cirro, Xoom, and Pennywise). No company you can pick has anything to do with your electricity reliability --- that’s Centerpoint’s job.

Be careful and read the fine print. All the providers now have a tier surcharge based on how many kilowatts you use. The companies advertising the lowest rates have surcharges of $50 for 500kilowatts and over $100 for over 1000k. I changed providers every year and it is now more confusing hosing a company than ever. I went with Green Mountain as their surcharge was the lowest. I'm in Dallas though.

Anyone use Go Griddy?

Pay $10/month and buy at the wholesale price. Distribution charges (ie Centerpoint) are all the same from provider to provider I believe. Can have some bug spikes, but it seems like over the long haul you can save. I just found out about them, so was curious if anyone used them before I gave them a shot.
