I'd walk away from every one of those deals you're working on so far and don't respond to another email after telling them "Thank you, but I'm moving forward with another option."

I am
I broke the Will Cover rule with a few to see what they would say since they were sooo far off on price.
Told them another dealer offered this price..
They all say the same thing "wow, go for it and get me one if you get that price"
Is that a standard response?

Yes, absolutely. The trick is, don't just just tell them that. Have proof. Expand your search radius. I often will look 200 miles out. You'll find a needle in a haystack somewhere out there. I ask them to send me an itemized breakdown of the deal with a drive-out price. I've honestly only had a couple tell me "no" to that over the years. Use that to negotiate closer to home or make the drive. Your choice.

But yeah, they're calling your bluff. They are taught from the day they start the job that 99% of what a customer says is BS (ironic, I know ).

I did that with my wife's car, when I found a better deal but didn't feel like driving. Salesman said something similar, and when he called back the next day I was like "Well, you told me if I could get that price to get it, so I did. Thanks for the advice, the vehicle is great."

In your opinion, what would you think is a deal for the new Traverse? (with TTL, and extended warranty)

Don't ever buy extended warranty.

They have never come in handy with me before so I agree
I've always gotten them as a "You never know"

Then they wanted to charge me extra to fix dents when it is still under warranty

Would dents be covered under a warranty? Serious question. I don’t buy new and tend to hang on to my vehicles for a long time. I would think that body damage wouldn’t be covered.

Factory warranty is bumper to bumper up to 36,000 miles
I'm not 100% sure if it matters how it happened though

When I was looking at buying my Jeep I sent the build sheet out to 50+ dealers across 3 states. Narrowed it down to top 5 offers, then pitted the best 2 of those against each other. Walked in ready to buy and the guy wouldn’t budge a penny more. I disclosed the price the other dealer gave me and he fed me the same line in the dickish way possible. Walked out, drove an hour away and signed the paperwork for the order. He called me like a week later begging me to come back and buy for a price still a few hundred over the other dealer.

Long story short, they all lie and will feed you that same line. After repeated calls I told him to stop fricking calling me.

Pretty close. Face to face negotiations work best let’s them know you’re serious and always walk on the first offer. If you can wait a few months, once the 19’s come out the 18’s price will drop.

They are not, but I have negotiated to have them taken out of a used vehicle before at no cost to me. You just wait until AFTER you've already settled on the price and then make that a condition.

It's not the result of a defect or failure, though. Dents are normal wear and tear. Believe me, I wish it were true. I'd take my new car in and get the ding in my hood from an interstate rock out right now!

It was one of the vehicles we looked at last fall for the wife, and to be honest we didn't find one that we found was worth it. They weren't moving much on price so we walked. We ended up in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and we're both happy with it. I just felt like the traverse was worth what they wanted. A Tahoe on the other hand, I'd be happy with mid-40s.

Funny thing is, I'm not even kidding. They will literally bring in outside, professional trainers who will spend a lot of time drilling this into the head of every salesman.

I know, and I want to do it, but I don't have the time to spend all day at a dealership...who does?

When I bought my truck, I called ahead, told the salesman the stock number of the one I wanted, and that I'd be by at 2:00 and was leaving with or without their truck at 4:00. Told them to have the truck out front detailed and ready. I reiterated that when I got there, test drove, and was out by 3:30. Even got to skip the Onstar indoctrination.

I have a 2016 Jeep Compass now, but with the new baby, traveling is a tight fit
I want to upgrade to something with more room
It will be even tighter when we have a second kid in a year or 2

We have a toddler, and the Grand Cherokee is a good fit even with today's ever growing car seats. We have one of those big 3 wheel strollers, and it fits fine in the back.

Her old Traverse was bigger though, no shortage of room in those things. I just didn't like driving it. Terrible seats. Totally numb driving experience. Ours was a '15 though. Might as well have gotten a van. The Jeep has been the opposite, very comfortable and I don't mind driving it at all.
