I know this is said a lot after storms like this, but this could have been so much worse for Florida. The storm surge was highest in the NE quadrant, and that quadrant came ashore in the Everglades for all intents and purposes. Water was pushed out to Tampa Bay and other inlets by the NE to N wind, but the winds on the backside of the storm were much weaker and didn't push it up nearly as high as what pushed it out.
If Irma skirts the western peninsula, Naples, Cape Coral, St. Pete/Tampa, Sarasota, etc. have MUCH bigger surge problems.
I'm sure there will be plenty of damage regardless, but there is a silver lining for Floridians as a whole nonetheless.

I'm in Pasco County (Zephyrhills) and we are just now getting the high winds. Supposed to be 70-100mph winds from 11:00 tonight through 6:00 in the morning.
Good luck tonight.
The current movement has the strongest winds heading toward you, probably some two hours away from the very worst maybe less.

Give y'all in Florida an idea of the wind field tonight. You won't see many wider hurricane wind fields.

I'm hosting some family who evacuated from Fort Myers.
Does anyone have a link to current storm surge there, particularly neighborhood specific?
Information is peace of mind, and I cannot seem to locate such a resource through standard searches. Thanks in advance.
Hope everyone stays safe.
