What was the outcome?
I was lucky, everything electrical in both cars was OK. But both batteries were toast, even after putting them on the charger. In my defense, I didn't see the label on the battery itself, just saw the label on the cable and assumed they were the same. This battery is on the side of the trunk, tucked inside the fender well. And it was dark. Now after I've gotten all my excuses out, here's a pic.

And I see now where the confusion lies. The battery cables themselves, not the jumper cables that I connected, were mismatched.
