Snakes are venomous
Yep. I grew up with a mother who referred to 'venomous' snakes as 'poisonous'. She also taught us to never approach a nesting female alligator. Gators are fast. Not good.
Old habits is hard to stop. I never thought to stop to ask her for an explanation on the difference in terminology. I was not the kid who was always attempting to catch snakes. But I was the kid who whispered,"feet don't fail me now" or a variation of that line when I accidentally came upon a coiled snake. Of which there were many where I lived.
Fortunately, I knew the difference between a 'poisonous' snake and a King Snake. Them other demons? If Jesus crushed the head of the 'Serpent', then I figured I was called to carry on the tradition.
Which brings me to your language study for tonight. What does the french term "Come 500 libras de mierda" mean?

quote:I thought it was University Hospital but not completely sure. We had a transport team that went down and got the babies but some came in via helicopter. The team had to be guarded by LSP and National Guard and they did get shot at. Brave people.
Were the babies from Memorial or Charity?
Dedicated staff in NOLA because there was no electricity and they had to bag(breathing bag) the babies by hand. I remember the NICU director/nurse hadn't slept in a week.
We got a lot of other patients because Woman's was near the LSP headquarters and the pilots would see red cross on our helipad. Crazy time. I played a minor role but most of our staff was awesome.

I don’t know why you want to argue but whatever. Sorry reading is difficult for you. You want to now bring in a terrorist attack to a natural disaster that happened to a region.

As for what happened at Memorial. The staff was put in a tough position. Most of those patients were on a floor that was leased to another group the Memorial staff was not in charge of those patients. The Doctor in charge evacuated back to Atlanta and then tried to blame others he left behind. They tried to blame a Dr and several nurses for the deaths of some patients.
AG Charlie Foti thought he'd punish them it would give him a chance to be Governor. Thankfully that didn't work out. IMO he is a horrible man.

My next door neighbor was one of the ICU nurses at Memorial. She couldn't even talk about any of it after.

This is a perfect example of why you assholes can’t have nice things. What a urine match.

Katrina wasnt a natural disaster for New Orleans, it was a result of human incompetence

Nurse called in from one of the hospitals she was crying because the looters were breaking into the cars in the parking garage and stealing everything. It was horrible. FWIW Charlie Foti is a despicable human being.

I know Oschner NICU babies were brought by helicopter to Woman's Hospital. My cousin was an Oschner NICU nurse and flew along with some of the babies.

I think Charity became University. Thank you for your work, you are a hero also, no role was too small!

But New Orleans received all the media attention because it is a bigger city. If the levees were built properly, the damage to New Orleans would have been minimal.
This is fact. I was in N.O. and rode out Katrina and the storm wasn't as bad as I thought it would be------until the levees broke and all that water came pouring in. The storm was pretty much over when I started seeing water rising after the fact in my area of Mid-City.
My street almost always floods during real heavy rain events so some flooding was expected, but when the rains really slowed down and the water kept coming, I figured something had to break somewhere.
By Monday night it was over 3 ft. deep and eventually stopped when it hit 4 1/2 ft. deep on my street.

I remember that. Another hospital or long/term care facility was there, too. I think the Memorial folks helped them too bc their company abandoned. It’s been a minute, I could be confusing things.

quote:Yes, it was for nursing home patients that needed hospital care. CMO left for Atlanta and blamed others when he was exposed.

People screamed at me in Grocery store and cried about us moving away and I have felt like I betrayed my beloved hometown ever since then. I will never get over it, and neither will a lot of old friends. (My wife couldn’t deal with it so we moved. )
Lost most of my good friends, my business buddies and neighbors and been a stranger in a stranger place for last 18 years

Idk, this guy came to work from Nola and his name was Raw Dog. And traffic was never the same again.
