Since it is your property, we can stop all government subsidies, and take our water back, right?

That spec was paid for by the landowner. You were poaching

thats my point....im getting blasted for saying we should be able to block off dead end canals/one way in one way out canals...
Then I agree 100%.
The main issue here should be ingress/egress as 19thHole pointed out.

why is a big deal if someone fishes that canal?
I can see you gating off access past your camp.

We don't "think" anything, we paid for the right. There's absolutely no reason for you to HAVE to access my duck pond that leads nowhere.
That's like saying you only "think" that no one needs access to your backyard and the public should be able to access it as they please.

There is a lot of state land (swamp land, not water) in the basin that the only access to is to go through someone else's property to get to the state land...on 4 wheelers

I fish around deer bayou but I've never seen any gates...that I can remember

In a situation like that there should be some form of accommodation for people to access the state land.

if the canal is 500 yards long why should the entire canal be gated?

I really don't understand why some of you keep attempting to equate the two. Really blows my mind.

In my personal opinion, that's 100% fine, and I myself allow fishermen to access my land. However, if the landowner chooses to gate it and isn't blocking access to public land, then it is his right to do so.

I have a camp in a dead in canal and have it gated off. There's no reason for any boats to be back there.
It is pretty straight forward - the moment a canal was dug to allow public water to flow into it, public boats should be allowed in as well. If you want them out, put the land back where it was and the water will leave too.

it's not about keeping someone from fishing..it's about keeping people away from my camp, out of my duck ponds, off my deer stands, shooting nutria off my land, etc..

the gate is at the entrance of the lease right where it starts to becomes a one way in one way out

Do you own the air above your house or can I just come and drop pilings around your house and build on top of you? The land under the water is owned by the landowner, therefore access to that land whether by water or dry earth is irrelevant.
If the water is on my land, I own the water.
