By all means, rely on the answers you get on the OT. Don't bother consulting with a doctor to discuss your options.

Been through that same situation man. Have an honest conversation with your doc or psychiatrist and keep them closely informed if they prescribe medication. I was on antidepressants and benzos for a few years, along with therapy, and was able to get off of them without a problem. Kudos on the exercise and on getting counseling. Wishing you the best.

I’d seriously consider medicinal marijuana if available.. find the right dosage, lower level of gummy’s works best IMO bc you won’t get the high in the sky feeling but it will relax and ease anxiety. It’s also easy to just stop and see if still needed as prescribed

Definitely talk to your doctor about anxiety meds, because there are so many kinds and they impact different people in different ways. I wouldn't call any of them "magic pills."

Anxiety is not an easy thing to live with, and you just have to take things a moment at a time.

Sounds like you need xanex. I have taken it occasionally for years to help, especially with sleep. Just use it in moderation and don't take more than recommended. It really can help.

Xanax isn't all that bad if you go with like a .5 dosage. I take one before I fly with a makers and coke. Works fine. My Dr prescribed be Lorazepam a year ago, they work also. I use them sparingly, don't know If I have had one in a year..

by all means i will talk with my doc. i'm just looking for experiences with meds and trying to stay away from any potentially nasty side effects.

I’ll give a third thumbs up to Lexapro. I was on that earlier in my life and it was very helpful

i have a friend of mine back home that is currently on it and says he has trouble being able to perform in bedroom. not sure if it is med related but he says he didn't have any problems before he started taking it.

is he full of shite or is this a real problem with these kind of meds?

seems to me if true that would give me even more anxiety.

Everyone has their own unique side effects. I did not have that while on it. My side effect was weight gain.

Do everything you can to stay off prescription med's, I've seen family members get hooked on pills and it's ruined lives. After watching loved ones go through rehab for pill dependency, I'd advise anyone to try another alternative.

Keep up the regular exercise, and give massage therapy a try for a few weeks and see it that helps.

I'll advise this, because we're in a volatile world with respect to job stability (among other things), whatever route you decide to go make damn sure you have official documentation for what you're taking. If you start smoking weed for example and then all of a sudden you have to get a new job that requires a drug screening (yes, even white collar jobs), your anxiety will get about 100x worse panicking that you won't pass a piss test.

That said, definitely Xanax if you don't have an addictive personality.

1. Realize that it is completely normal to have the symptoms you are having. Ordinarily, I am also a non-medicating person, but also went through a period of feeling like a body-slammed, insomniac, non-productive and mindless zombie at divorce. My subconscious was just occupied, and I would drive past my exit on the interstate, or go upstairs and stop and ask myself, "Why did I come up here?"

2. Medications can help, and there are a number available. Most can have somewhat differing effects, so see a doctor and discuss. Prozac was a popular option back then and worked well for me. Did make me a bit antsy and impatient, but oriented. That was 30 years ago and there are newer options as well. I was much better within a few weeks, though still not necessarily happy, dealing with it.

3. Keep physically active, or add some new activity change like simple bike riding, preferably with a buddy/friend along. Fresh air and sunshine are good medicine.

4. Do not withdraw from family and friends. Don't let the pandemic be an excuse to wallow in it alone.

5. Remind yourself that almost everyone goes through some period of loss and stress in this life, and that it will get better and you will come out of it okay, and maybe for the better. Life is an adventure, and there are some unexpected twists and turns. Have faith.

A little known supplement that the body creates itself that helps minimize anxiety is GABA. Can be found at Walmart and helps tremendously. At times, changes in life can cause a lack of this supplement in the body which can increase anxiety. It also helps with sleep.
