When you swirl your brush in the TOBS tub, you're doing that with a dry brush huh?

The thing with irritation is prep and conditioning. Make sure your face is ready, post shower, hot towel etc. Make sure you are making a good lather and working it in a bowl with a brush. Get the cream nice and thick - if it has bubbles, it is going to be too thin and you need to add more soap or cream - next time do not use too much water in your brush, you can always add water if needed and work into bowl. you can add a few drops of pure glycerine which actually may help.
Conditioning the skin post shave is very important. I do not use a cold water splash post shave, but rather a warm towel and then immediately rub in Apricot Kernel Oil (grape seed oil or other oil of choice) and let penetrate the skin and pores. Wait to apply aftershave or cologne and do not apply where you shave - apply on sides of neck.

It's red with irritation, and the skin is a little raw.
I forgot to mention, I've been using Derby blades because I was scared shitless when I first opened that razor. I have some proraso soap and Jack Black conditioning, I'm going to change the blade and try those to see if it makes a difference. If I still get burned, I'll buy a different kind of blade.
Thanks.
That was my experience with the Derby blades as well. I gave up on them after the first shave. Switched to Astra Superior Platinums and haven't had the issue since.

That bad? I haven't noticed the irritation until this past week, and I've had them in for probably 3 weeks.

Yeah, I had a lot of irritation with them, that I never had with the Merkurs I was using before or the Astras I'm using now. The cheapo Williams mug soap works quite well for me, so I've stuck with that.
They came with my Edwin Jagger, so thought I'd give them a shot. I gave the rest of the pack away.

Wade- how often are you changing blades, brother?

So I just got some new shaving gear in the mail.
Proraso shaving cream(green)
Proraso pre shave cream(green)
Proraso after shave(green)
Feather Blades.
Was previously using Taylor of Old Bond Street(sandlewood) and Art of Shaving aftershave(sandlewood).
Wow, best shave I've ever had. The difference is amazing. If anyone hasn't tried this combo then you're missing out. I feel like a new man.

Proraso green in the summer makes for a very nice shave.
I won a 1959 Gillette Fat Boy in just about mint condition on eBay so I am waiting for that to come in

I like to save a ton of time and money and still get a comfortable clean shave with my can of Nivea sensitive shave gel and some new Mach 3 turbo cartridges.
on days when i want to feel like a gentleman in the 1920's i can squirt some cream into a warm coffee mug before i lather it on my face.
but usually i just shave in the shower and call it a day. go eat my breakfast and get on to things i enjoy doing

Bump.
Got a RazoRock DE razor for Father's Day. Not pricey but what I wanted. A solid razor with an old school heavy brass handle that is chromed. Not even a nick with today's shave.

Awesome. My Father's Day haul included a replated fatboy, and an ample supply of razorock XXX with Arko, la Toja, and Palmolive sticks.

Well my 1959 Gillette Fat Boy came in the mail today and it's in damn near mint condition. Will be using it tonight with some of my better tools. Can't wait to give this thing a test run.
