This is correct. The M4 is an AR-15. Different stock and barrel but the DI/internal piston that is the heart of the rifle is the same.
The M4 is actually one of the last true AR platform rifles still in service. The HK 416 the marines use and the new Sig M7 rifle they are trying to make work in the army are short stroke piston guns.

Well that’s how I’d store mine if I was using the restroom in NOLA during MG. You know, having to rest your face on stock and all.
