I had a Ryobi with all the attachments that ran great for 16 years. Was a great weedeater. Never a problem until it just wouldn't start one day. Didn't feel like getting it repaired. It had a good life.

I bought a Husqvarna that has all the attachments a few years ago that has been good.

Based on all the responses, I may go with the stihl or echo next time.

I got a Shindaiwa in about 1990. Still going strong. Its a bushhog on a stick. With the blade that has the chainsaw teeth on the OD it can cut a 4" tree or branch. Had to replace the string head last year and had the carb rebuilt once. If I had to replace I would get a Stihl for parts and service availability and the thing takes a 25:1 mix and all of my other tools take a 50:1 mix

After many years of fighting with what I thought were good weedeaters, I finally bought a Stihl FS 56 over 2 years ago and have never had an issue with it.

LINK

Cranks easily and runs great every time. No problem starting it after the first 2 winters either.

Think it was about $200.

Echo the Echo. Love my echo.

Used a Stihl on some trail maintenance, once. Very nice as well.

I have a 14 year old John Deere I use with an edger attachment. Still runs on the 2nd pull every time. Used only 10% ethanol gas since 03...so not sure what the canned gas thing is all about. Think it was 90 bucks new. Muffler fell off and tossed the air filter years ago. Cant kill the thing.

Bought an Echo Pas-225 with straight shaft trimmer and edger attachment a couple weeks ago. Been very happy with it.

I have had the same Echo for 9 years. The only thing I have to replace are the fuel lines and grommet (twice) and the plunger (once). It is a great weed-eater.

Last week I bought a Stihl commercial weed eater KM90R straight shaft with the power head attachment and the Speedfeed head. It's a bad mofo.

Stihl weedeater and blower checking in, both with the Easy Start pull cord. How much is this canned fuel? I've been buying 91 octane EtOH-free gas at the place by Costco and mixing in the Stihl oil. Gallon is probably $6 or so all together.

It's not cheap, $30 / gallon.
I bought it when I bought my Stihl because they double your warranty if you buy it with new equipment. Warranty went from 2 yrs to 4yrs.

It's good fuel and has additives where you can leave the fuel in for 2 yrs.

Yeesh, I got the same warranty extension but only had to buy a 6-pack of their HP Ultra oil (each to make a gallon), which I've just run out of BTW. I think I'm gonna keep doing what I've been doing.

10 years with an Echo and have 0 complaints.

Just as important is good string. I just switched to Diamond something or other and it works well.

Sthil, I've used them commercially and privately. Best trimmer made hands down.

Echo or Stihl. I've had both and they are both reliable. In my experience you want two things from a weed eater - 1) that it always starts! And 2) that it's easy to respool.

I got the one where you cut preset lengths of wire and simply pull the old one out and new one in when its time to change them out. It's very easy and I'm one that hates trying to respool a weed eater, it's just a pain in the arse.
