Firefighter/paramedic here, we run the ambulance service through the fire department. Correct we many times have to wait on police before entering, one of the reasons I don’t get the defund police movement. I’m not strolling up into a shooting or stabbing until police get there and secure it, I damn sure ain’t gonna be the reason partner doesn’t get to go home to their spouse and kids

ff say the opposite. something about a test they have to take that cops don’t. can’t tell you how many times for years i had to hear: “we’re smarter, braver, and the true heroes who run into danger, fire and burning buildings. we save lives while cops take lives.”
fricking but he has delivered a buncha babies in crazy scenarios which was pretty cool, i guess.

I’ve been one close to 20 years and I’ve never head a FF say this dumb shite

Also most if not all the ones I know are close to cops and we get along great, but we sometimes of course mess with each other

Who are you referring to? Can you say his name or initials? Figured it out who I worked with? I’m a mostly unknown poster here

Firefighters don’t hide around corners to extort citizens on behalf of the government.

These stops both create animosity towards police officers and make the police officers job far more dangerous. If police actually served a security role, instead of a state revenue generation role, they would sit around at the station, like firefighters, and would be perceived with less animosity.

Depends. Do you want to be a second responder, or first responder.

Agree our dept policy was not to go into a domestic violence scene unless the police were there first. We used to joke about how do you tell if you have a hazardous scene or not.. it depends if the police who got there first were unconscious..

How do you control for the variable that risk in police work arises from the unique duty to take away the freedom (arrest) people who are prone to not go along with it and resist with deadly force? Other professions involve danger inherent in objects, materials, machinery, etc. that don’t spontaneously choose to create danger when resisting.

I'm sure most workplace fatalities are not planned events.

Police officers are ranked something like 15th in workplace fatalities by profession. So it's definitely not a safe job but loggers, fishermen, roofers, garbagemen, drivers, agricultural laborers, steelworkers, linemen, etc. have a higher rate of workplace fatalities. Maybe their dangers don't "spontaneously choose" to exist but none of the above workers go to work planning to die that day either.

I've done four of those other jobs.

I'm lucky to be alive.

When you see a headline about firefighters, and a dog, the firefighters have rescued the dog. When the headline is about the police, and a dog, the cops have shot the dog. I wish I was being sarcastic.
