so looks like they found a bunch of debris

I think this is it...now its about finding the black box

Now if they can really find the crap.. They have been seeing stuff from satellite over a weeek now.. Still nothing hands on.

I think they'll find it now. just incredibly weird that it landed around that area.

I just find it odd that after 2 weeks of not finding the plane, they come out with this "new" math technology and announce "it crashed in the Indian Ocean and everyone is dead".......with no proof (it may very well have crashed there). Who would've thought that any country could look dumber than North Korea BUT you have to hand to Malaysia with the way they've handled this.

So we have a bunch of satellite images of a possible debris field. An interpretation of some data pings.
Yeah seems legit.

A lot of countries have worked on this. The Malaysians are just the ones in the public spotlight.

They put it on themselves with the false data and what not. They are completely incompetent

I'm well aware of that. They looked ridiculously bad BEFORE they sent texts to the families saying "sorry, the plane crashed and your relatives are dead....here's $5 grand.....later."

They are all spotting debris.
I don't think anyone told them that they need to retrieve it.

They don't have much ping time left on it. If they don't find it in the next two weeks the odds of finding it go way down. Unlike the Air France flight, the flight pattern is still unknown and the currents in the area are wild.

Families were notified by phone, in person, and by text. Text wasn't the only method used.

Not exactly. Different satellites are spotting something that could be debris.
No search teams have actually spotted any debris.

wish they'd put that info out there, but you know they like to sensationalize everything.
"OMG THE PLANE HAS BEEN FOUND!!!11111!!!"
well, no, it hasn't.

Yeah, CNN had a report or something last night about search teams looking for cell phones and how they could retrieve attempts at sending messages and calls... looking for wallets... etc. I was thinking "hey... they found the plane."
Then they said that's what they could do IF they found the wreckage. Kinda think they should lead with the IF THEY FIND THE WRECKAGE part of the story. But then I guess it wouldn't be as interesting.
Stupid question... but, given what we think we know, was this plane still flying when they discovered it had gone missing? I can't remember when they first said "hey, we got a plane missing." And, if so, well, is there any current technology that would have allowed us to find it in the air at the time? At least to track it or whatever?

They location is some 1500 miles form Perth. That's a long steam.

As noted previously in this thread, probably the best place to get fresh news and commentary from commercial pilots and aerospace types (mixed with the usual sprinkling of irrelevant posts) is the MH370 thread on the Professional Pilots' Rumor Network (PPRUNE) board.
That thread is very long so it's best to start at the last page and work back.
The latest discussions seem focused on today's satellite debris findings.
