i remember learning on those $20 and $30 sngs on party poker way back in like 04-05

I had $1 left on there and played one of the daily tourneys. Wound up finishing in 4th place. Could've done better but I pushed all in a bluff and got caught. Didn't fare too well on the $30 one but I was a beast in the $20 ones. I was playing against the same idiots every time for the most part.

Weed will be legal on a federal level before online poker.

They have it all on bet online. I haven't received any calls from them or anything no issues. But my cc isn't on account and I play with about 10 bucks that I won from free rolls. So can't tell you about cashing out or anything yet.

i don't expect to ever get my money back, and neither should you, so use that accordingly when you buy in

and i think most of the sites are just different skins and transaction bases for the same network.

As far as I'm concerned, SnGs are the fastest way to make money. You don't have to be on your game consistently to finish in the money at a SnG but frick up in a NL cash game and you'll start tilting pretty fast.

At one time they were. SnGs haven't been a profitable way to play poker in a few years now. Ever since ICM and correct shove/fold ranges became common knowledge, SnGs have become slot machines.

I have a buddy who was ranked in the top 500 in the world. Went to Vegas and played all of the time too. Told me he lost about $35k when the SHTF with the online poker deal. fricker is at Harrah's damn near every night now, and that's how he makes a living while putting himself through school

Reading a few books taught me basic hand value and betting strategies, but in reality you need to just play and get experience. Trick is, it has to be meaningful play. Learning online with play money is just going to cause you to learn to play too loose. Jumping into what you can't afford is going to make you learn to play too tight. You need to develop your own style. Any low-stakes home games or anything like that in your area?

As the best poker player on this site

Also telling someone to not play poker as a hobby is rather dumb as well. Sure it's not close to what it used, especially in the US, but no reason not to learn the game.

The twoplustwo links earlier in the thread are a pretty good start to get you going. It's not the optimal way to learn anymore, but it's still a legitimate way to get started for almost everyone.

indeed, during the party poker phenomenon, these were so easy to cash; Id run 9 tables at a time.

just curious, since i dont play anymore, what are the most profitable games nowadays?

reading Will Tipton's Heads Up books

Tipton's first book is by far the best poker book out there. I've read it at least 3 times, and I don't even play much NL. I'm working on the second now, but have other things getting in the way with finishing it.

I certainly wouldn't recommend it though for most beginners, although it would be very interesting to see a player learn that way coming up, instead of the standard poker texts of old.

Whatever game you're best at...but for new players coming up, the best bet would be to learn PLO cash.
