We're mid-search now as well, having tried and returned the Puffy, and now on the Helix (2nd from softest). We will be returning that as well and getting the softest one.
We did buy and plan to keep the adjustable base. Kind of a novelty that we don't use every day but nice to have.
We will probably start to look at Sleep Numbers next, but the trial periods/return policies of the bed-in-a-box companies was too tempting to not check out.
Bed shopping makes me feel like I'm in The Princess and the Pea.

We bought a Serta icomfort 3000 Elite Plush about 2 years ago for like 2200 delivered.. Its comfortable as shite, and I think we got a good deal on it at the time. (Which probably means we got our eyeballs fricked out)

We checked Casper, and Amerisleep Both have showrooms in town here to try out. The amerisleep are nice because they have multiple models. Not just 2 like casper

We recently got a Casper Hybrid. We like it so far.

Had the sleep number I10 for a while now. Best mattress I have ever owned. The adjust ability of the firmness is great and it manages to stay much cooler in the summers than previous mattresses.

Go to sleep number and let them test you to see if you need soft, firm or somewhere in the middle. Then go buy the associated mattress somewhere else. Make sure they have an exchange program where you can return if you dont like it. I think you can return up to 3 times at Mattress Firm.

Get a Purple mattress. They are amazing to sleep on and have the added bonuses of being able to hold a Fleshlight in the webbing when your Mrs. is out for ladies night and being able to practice your fisting in the clean as they say.

Go to either of the BR Mattress Outlets. They have tons of mattresses to feel in person so you can find what feels best for you. I like a soft mattress and we got one from there and havent looked back. Their prices are really good because they are an outlet too. Plus there is a 90 day try it out period they honor.

Bought a Tuft & Needle this past Amazon day. The king was like $600 maybe. So we've been sleeping on it for a couple months now and it is way better than the old one. I have zero complaints

My wife and I spent years on a shitty old mattress and then trying to go cheap on newer ones, and I kept sleeping like shite. Thought I needed a sleep study or something. Would wake up every couple of hours and often had trouble falling back asleep. We eventually decided to buy a new mattress. It was $2700 after we haggled a little. No more sleep issues.
A great matress is worth the money, particularly if you have trouble sleeping.
